Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaNo real problems.
Room is big and dignified in a character-filled old building in an excellent spot in heart of Trastevere, but not one of the busier streets so it wasn't too loud at night.

LatviaAn electric tea kettle would be very useful and a detailed map of the area with bus/tram stops.
No breakfast. But there was a kitchen equipped with a gas stove, a dishwasher, a fridge, a washing machine, and all necessary utensils. The location was good. The host was very friendly and helpful.

New ZealandCash payment was requested. Payment via online banking services is much preferred. As it happened, Stefano was able to accommodate that.
The location is very central in the Trastevere district. I was delighted. There is a lift which is great. The host was very accommodating and I was able to leave my bags earlier than check-in time for which I was very grateful.

AustraliaBed was not to our liking, not firm enough and as we’re the pillows, might not be an issue for others though. Street is not the nicest to look out onto, shuttered businesses with lots of unappealing graffiti everywhere. Charged extra for late check-in, knew about it but still hurts, as does cash on check-in.
The location is really central to Trastevere’s lively food and bar culture, close to public transport channels and was very easy to find. The room was on the bigger side for Italy, bathroom was big too. Common area with fridge and kitchen was convenient, as was the elevator for our luggage. Good aircon, large windows also looking into the street, felt safe at all times. Stefano, although we never saw him, was a good host, provided us with any assistance as needed.

NetherlandsThe room was moldy. When I arrived the host opened the window because of the mold smell. Nothing else. I cleaned the mold from the wall myself with paper towel and a bit of soap. I have photos of before and after. Still this is not enough to get rid of the moldy smell of the room. I had to keep the window open for the whole time I was there otherwise it was not really possible to breath. Bathroom was also dirty and moldy. Needs a good cleaning. Please find the source of your mold and fix it before you continue to profit from renting this room to tourists. Keeping the window open meant a lot of noise all night and day coming in the room and bad sleep.
Great location and nice kitchen. Near to a lot of touristic places. Lots of restaurants are available around to eat.

South AfricaFrancesco, who checked me in, was the rudest, most unpleasant, and most unhelpful person I ever met. In fact, his attitude was so disgusting and he spoke to me so badly that I contemplated leaving and finding somewhere else to stay - but after over 24 hours' of travelling and a whole day of waiting to check in, I unfortunately decided to remain and make the most of it. Perhaps this was my oversight, but I did not realise this was an apartment that had been sub-divided into three rooms. Personally I did not feel comfortable using the communal kitchen or sharing an apartment with complete strangers, but this was my choice as the option to do so was available. The other guests were also quite noisy at times, talking at the top of their voices at midnight followed by taking a bath, with the old pipes and running water making such a racket it could have woken the dead. My room (the single room) was extremely gloomy and despite the description on Booking.com stating that "all rooms will provide you with a city view", the only view was a dark, dingy, filthy courtyard filled with trash and noisy aircon units. I was therefore unable to open the door (there weren't any windows) or use the so-called "terrace", which was a huge problem as there were overwhelming paint fumes coming from somewhere (definitely not this room!) which were unbearable The bed had a very old spring mattress that was sagging in the middle, and two pillows were stuffed into one pillow case, which was super uncomfortable. The bathroom was a good size but the shower cubicle was miniscule and there wasn't even a soap dish, so every time I wanted to get my toiletries, I had to open the door and the water splashed everywhere. Surely a cheap plastic shower caddy isn't too much to ask?
Trastevere is a magnificent neighbourhood and one of the best areas to stay in Rome, and the apartment is in a decent, quiet, and safe street. However, it is not near any metro stations and the bus stops are not that close - so bear in mind that getting to and from the apartment can be challenging with luggage. In addition, there is a hefty fee for early check-in of 20 euro (which was not available on my date anyway), and there is no luggage storage option (unless you are willing to pay 20 euro without early check-in, which doesn't make sense when you can use the luggage storage facility across the road for around 10 euro). There is also no 24-hour front desk as advertised. Stefano., the owner, is excellent with communicating and is fairly helpful - but this could not make up for the appalling service from his employee Francesco, or the overall dismal experience.
