Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe hippo lounge is a sterile wasteland and should be integral to this prestige property. Management offices should not be in the main building as that’s not premier real estate. The food offering had been compromised as the beef/lamb were both scrawny and chewer. Old mutton and old beef in a country with superb produce. Very disappointing. The fish course was tilapia heads which were very tasty but clearly a discount offering. The food was poor. Eggs were anaemic. Buffett options are wasteful and unappealing to the guests. The bar ran out of Tusker beer (in Kenya) and soda water. None of this is a refection on the chefs but they are obviously being prevented from buying quality produce by the owner/management. The management is the problem. They are invisible to the guests and a burden to the offering.
They had looked after an important heritage property in Kenya. The grounds are stunning. Service & hospitality was excellent. It is a pity that the lounge areas have been taken over by offices/conference facilities. These areas are very distinctive and part of the premium offering of the property. This is a jewel of a property that needs to be better looked after by someone with style. Expansive gardens and views and direct access to lake trips and Crescent island. The warmth of the staff was overwhelming. This is an excellent but needs better management as it is a prestige property.

FranceWhile being in a beautiful building, the hotel looks rundown (it’s definitely not a 5 stars, more a 3 or a low 4 stars). The door of our room didn’t open without a very hard push, the TV was blurry and old, the phone too, some tiles in the bathroom were damaged, few old stains on the walls, the mosquito net around the bed looked very cheap, a few abandoned buildings on the property… The buffet was diverse, but the food was not so good and the time of serving very short (2 hours). We were disappointed and had some mixed feelings, especially for such a high price!
Beautiful location right on the lake, with wild animals walking around. Very nice swimming pool. A beautiful veranda for breakfasts and dinners. The hotel is really well located. The staff is really friendly and helpful, they made our stay enjoyable.

United StatesThere was nothing special for the Christmas celebration. Declared events (live band, etc) were not provided. At least we didn't notice them. There was no any festive food either.
Good location. Attentive staff. Good food. You will enjoy your close contact with nature. .

BelgiumThe shower drain was slow in our room.
Quite a good hotel. But there is not much to say more. There should be animals on site (zebras), but they were hiding. Only monkeys and birds were well visible. Hyppos come out at the dark and then it is not allowed to walk in the garden alone. Also they are not well seen in the dark from a distance.

United KingdomShould give more warning about the dangers of hippos and train their staff to not get to close. One of their rangers panicked a bit as a hippo started to charge towards us (it stopped very quickly). We should be allowed to get close enough that a ranger can panic.

KenyaThere was a slight problem with the plumbing which did not really impact our stay as such. The tour guide for the boat safari needs to be more proactive in providing information and not have to be prompted all the time, but he was kind and courteous nonetheless and made sure we had enough time to take pictures of the various animals.
Having nature/wild animals so close to us was a beautiful and interesting experience, the air was very clean, the staff were very friendly and seemed to know intuitively what we wanted. We felt really bad checking out, and hope to return soon.

KenyaI think the food could be better: in particular improving the desserts and pasta bar would be easy fixes. Breakfast was generally much better than dinner.
Overall we had a great, relaxing, fun family stay. It was such a great location, with lovely views of the lake and animals all around. An easy place to stay with kids. Enough to do and see, while also being very good for relaxing. And the staff were all so friendly and wonderful. We loved our stay and would return.

Wilbert was really friendly in the receiption and in Crescend island we met David who can provide you with plenty of information about the island, is highly recommended to find him to accompany you during visiting the islannd.
