How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The only fault we could find was the WiFi kept going down
The staff customer services were absolutely excellent and couldn't fault. The rooms are cleaned daily and were spotlessly clean. Breakfast was excellent.

The settings for the fan in the room didnt have a low setting so it was either full blast or none at all which made sleeping tricky.
The staff were exceptional! Very kind and the best service we’ve had in Kenya. Stella, Benjamin and Peter are so attentive and helped ensure we have the best time possible in Mombasa. The kitchen staff you very helpful and knowledgeable. We were greeted with cool face clothes upon our arrival which was a treat after a long travel day. Wifi was consistent and able to make a video call. Have already recommended to a friend who will be passing through.

Staff, service level, and food are all exceptional. Their guest relationship Managers go the extra mile to make the stay perfect. I was serviced by Yvollene, who is best at customer service. I will definitely return again and will happily recommend to others visiting Mimbasa.

After the upgrade, everything was great.
Excellent staff who bent over backwards to make everything right. Ride from the airport was quite chaotic with traffic and the driver didn't want the aircon on as it used petrol. Not a hotel employee but was organized by the hotel. Hotel apologized. First night room was noisy as hotel is next door to a Mosque and we were right beside the lift, so we got upgraded for the next night. So so much better. Hotel then gave us complimentary upgraded trip (flas van).back to the airport. They couldn't do enough to try to make everything perfect. Room service food was also very good.

The size of the shower and the noise that comes from guests when they go up and down.
The breakfast was nice but it would be better if there were more gluten-free varieties. Even though the surroundings need to be more attractive and clean, The Hotel's location is good.

All the staff, especially reception team and Yvonne. They converted my stay from average overnight to amazing experience I will never forget! The hotel itself is fairly good for the price. Rooms have airco and nice clean beds. Location is really convinient for visiting old town, breakfast is good with wide selection of some local dishes and european options like porridge and omelette. However it is rather expensive.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Sapphire during a short visit to Mombasa and we had a wonderful stay. The hotel is centrally located and all the tuk-tuk drivers we took knew the hotel well and its location and that made moving around very easy. Our room was very clean and very comfortable. The A/C worked perfectly and the Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. There was hot water in our shower and the night was quiet and peaceful. All of the staff that we encountered were very welcoming, customer focused and attentive and we felt really well looked after. We would return and recommend.
