Only two things - my husband found the mattress a bit hard, but that's pretty common in Asia. The payment system should be clearer upfront. If you travel with USD cash, then you pay the quoted price. If not, you either have to pay a 3% credit card fee or pay cash in kip at a very bad rate. The credit card option is by far the best way to go if you don't have cash USD. (The "pay at property" system is very common in Laos - best just to bring cash dollars.) There may be other similar properties at a lower price, but the high level of maintenance, large room size, pretty garden and good breakfasts make Villa Chitdara a good choice.

We liked the spotless cleanliness, the garden setting, the location in the middle of the UNESCO World Heritage area and near the Mekong River and a short walk to many restaurants. The breakfasts were generous and appealed to both Western and Asian tastes. The room was a good size, the staff friendly. The shower worked well with good pressure, the air conditioning worked well - everything is well-maintained.

Clean but very hard bed. Very fine showerhead spray but it was ok No flywire on door but we could have it open at times to get natural coolness as one layer of curtains. Was a gine mesh.

The location is perfect. The rooms are huge, beautifully decorated, all amenities you need, very clean and quiet. The beds were comfortable. Staff were great and very helpful. Breakfast was excellent.

Good french style breakfast with fresh baugettes, excellent Lao coffee, omelette, yoghurt, fresh fruit. We believe we found the best place in Luang Prabang ;-)

Nothing to dislike

The hotel is an old colonial style building. The grounds are well kept, clean, and tidy. The staff are lovely and very helpful. Breakfast is available but no other meals at the hotel but that's not a problem as there are cafes and restaurants close by. The location is excellent, and attractions within the town are within eady walking distance

We had a great stay here. Beautiful, clean and comfortable rooms. Bed was firm which we actually prefer. Great location between the main street and the river and also close to all the main attractions, yet on a quiet street. Helpful staff who helped us organize tours and transport.

The property is in a quiet part of town, greener, pleasant, but only a mere 5 min walk from the main sights. The de luxe rooms facing the back garden are quiet and relaxing. The place is clean and the staff are super friendly. This hotel was the best one I stayed in all my Laos trip.

Owners & staff very friendly & helpful; spacious, clean room with balcony overlooking garden; very good breakfast; love the Lao coffee! Perfect location; in walking distance to all the attractions. Across the alley a small supermarket & laundry. When back in Luang Prabang I will definitely stay here again. This was my 5th visit in Luang Prabang, and the best place I stayed!

Free upgrade at check in. Lots of personal attention, beautiful garden, as an addition to the breakfast buffet we've got a croissant every morning. Bonuspoints awarded for having a pool outside of the city center with a free transfer service by tuk tuk. Great location tot visit Luang Prabang, everything within walking distance.

the beds were the most uncomfortable we ever struck, like sleeping on boards. We asked for a 2 hour later checkout due to a flight delay. the manager said others were checking in but then we could for US $20. so two senior citizens sat in concrete benches outside for 2 hours. no one checked in. Extremely inhospitable and also lying to guests means we would never recommend or return here
