No really comfortable place to sit in reception areas ( though that is typical of a lot of SL hotels) Quite far off the main high street so can’t just wander out for local eating but would be no problem to get a tuk tuk out.

Modern property. Super friendly staff. We arrived late on SL New Year’s Eve and they arranged a pizza delivery for us as the cooks had all left earlier on. We had a feast of a breakfast on New Year’s morning after returning from our very early balloon trip. Staff could not have been nicer. Loved the en-suite alfresco (very private) shower and nice balcony.

WiFi doesn’t work well in a room

Good for stay a night while visiting Dambulla and Sigeria sites. Big parking area. Quiet and peaceful. The team is very friendly and helpful. Nice lankan breakfast.

Nothing, it was fine!

Location outside the chaos. No horns blaring, little vehicle traffic. If you have your own transport it’s perfect, but it is also within walking distance of town if you’re in decent shape. Room was basic but clean, air con worked well. Staff were super friendly.

We were filmed and photographed during breakfast without our permission. I didn’t notice at first, but when my boyfriend told me afterwards, I felt a bit violated. Furthermore, there were people from the hotel watching loud videos during breakfast instead of just using headphones. The noises from other people having breakfast were, moreover, to be heard very loudly in our room. Hence, as soon as the first person had breakfast, you couldn’t really sleep anymore.

This property would be a 5 star retreat if it had more attention by the owner. Unfortunately he is mostly absent, leaving Dilshan to do everything (including cleaning rooms, serving breakfast, dealing with any and all guest needs/problems/requests. He’s overworked and overwhelmed. Another important issue is the lack of communication from the owner. Ten days later, and three days after we’ve left, I STILL haven’t had a response from him (via Booking) as to whether there were any bikes available. He also promised me the corner room — it was not available when we arrived. The owner seems like a nice man but we think he’s got to be more responsive to messaging — and hire Dilshan some help!! The owner has had international living experience so we’d expect him to be more understanding of his guest’s needs.

This brand new property is lovely and quiet. The rooms are spacious and the beds are the most comfortable we’ve had in Sri Lanka so far. The bathroom is beautiful and it’s so nice to have the little deck out your door to watch and hear the birds. The young man who basically runs this place is very friendly and helpful and personable. He tries hard to make your stay as good as he possibly can. He’s the only employee who understands English, so he is in great demand by the guests.

We had a wonderful stay in the Black Mustang. Rooms are spacious and clean, the view from the balcony on the nature is beautiful. Very peaceful and quiet, the hotel is off the main road so no disturbance at night. Dinner and breakfast were delicious, the hosts were really nice and helped us out with arranging transport for our further travels. Would definitely stay here again :)

This is not negative, but if Black Mustang did evening meals, I'm sure they'd be good.

A well maintained boutique type hotel, supported by polite attentive staff that supplied a first class breakfast. Peaceful, and only 10min walk from the centre of town. When in town, check out Bentota Bakehouse for evening meals, there's not a lot of options.

Some drawers for clothes would be nice, also reading lights. Bathroom wall is open from the side of the shower, so you you have to run from mosquitos when you turn on the light and want to go on toilet in the night :) but nothing terrible Also with the power cuts staff should check the contents of the refrigerator more often

The establishment appears to have been recently established so there was limited staff. Beds were a little musty and it would have helped to have fresh linen

The small part road leading towards the hotel is very narrow broken and difficult for a big car.

Staff was very helpful. The hotel stay was comfortable. Dilshad was the main guy here who can communicate well. He will ensure you will have the best stay here.
