Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIt’s 15 minutes in a tuk tuk to the lake but that’s ok. Wine was rather overpriced.
Staff were fantastic and the chef’s food excellent. Swimming pool a pleasant bonus.

CanadaClove Villa is situated just outside of Kandy's city centre! It's so picturesque inside. The decor and facilities are superb. We really enjoyed our stay here. The room was beautifully decorated and very clean. We didn't have breakfast or dinner at the hotel because we wanted to try places outside but you can purchase breakfast or dinner here. There's also a cute pool outside!

Exceptional boutique hotel, an oasis of calm in hectic Kandy. We felt welcome from the minute we arrived, greeted by Danushka with cool towels and freshly squeezed juice in the beautifully appointed marble reception area by incredibly attentive and helpful staff. Our room was spacious and elegant with a luxurious bathroom including a shower with great water pressure and plenty of hot water (a first for us in Sri Lanka!). The food was wonderful; Umesh the chef spent time talking to us about what we would like and created an amazing meal, especially the aubergine curry made to his grandmother's recipe and the jackfruit curry made with fresh jackfruit from the tree in the garden. The outside area is lovely, with very comfortable sunbeds and many different birds (and frogs!). Overall, we felt thoroughly spoiled throughout our stay; the service felt very personal and nothing was too much trouble. The manager whose name I didn't catch was also lovely, so helpful and wanting to do anything she could to ensure we had the best possible stay.

RussiaOn booking com its indicated that you get a 300 sqm area and you expect that you are booking a flor in a villa. Practically you book a 25-30 sqm room with possibility to use shared area in the villa of around 300 sqm
Excellent hotel located in 15 min ride via tuk-tuk from centre of Kandy. First impression - great looking hotel with kind service from the personal. Location not in the very centre is an advantage, due to the fact that around the Kandy lake its way to lound and crowdy. Very juicy breakfasts and delicious local cousine dinners, piasibility to take meala on a lovely terrace Billiard available for guests

United KingdomLight switches a bit confusing. I finally worked out where they were but it took a while. The plugs could also have been more accessible.
A very nice comfortable hotel in a quiet area not far from the city centre. Excellent, friendly staff who looked after and anticipated your every need. We had one delicious dinner there. The best Sri Lankan vegetable curry so far - and the aubergine curry was so good that I asked for the recipe. Breakfast very good too.

RomaniaThe photos and the reviews do not do the location justice. The staff is making everything much better. We ate there twice in our 2 nights stay and the chef made things that were not in the menu at our request as we were lucky enough to be the only visitors then. It was probably the best food we had in Sri Lanka. They villa is very well mantained and the entire staff works very hard to make your stay perfect. The city was not a hit for us, so we spent most of the time at the location and we loved it.

Such a beautiful property. There were a few hiccups such as TV and Kettle not working but all fixed after mentioning to the Team. I highly recommend the food - one of the best meals I've had here in Sri Lanka.

NetherlandsThe breakfast was a bit overpriced. 30 dollar for 2 persons; it was tasteful but quite simple (fruit, juice, coffee, toast and egg).
Very friendly people and a 5 star service. The decor is very nice and cozy. Nice room, big and very clean. On recommendation of the chef we choose the Sri Lankan meal (it was a festive meal he said). It was big and very very good. The whole table was filled with little dishes. Beautiful.

GermanyWe had two uncomfortable situations with the manager. After asking for a taxi to Sigiriya she tried to give us very overpriced driver. But worse, during the check out she tried to charge us a new (higher) price, not the one confirmed by booking.com. After quite some discussions we only paid the booking.com price. Her behaviour does not do this special hotel and lovely team justice.
The whole crew was awesome (chef and two assistents/waiters)! They made our stay very special! Thank you for everything! Rooms are super clean and food is delicious.

GermanyMy girlfriend and I stayed at Clove Villa for 2 nights. The villa is located a little bit north of the city center, but therefore quite remote and well connected by quickly organized tuk-tuk or cab rides. The villa itself is very charming, cozy and clean and the staff is super attentive and welcoming. Upon arrival we were served fresh welcome drinks and in the evening Umeish - the chef of the house - prepared incredible tapas style variations of curries. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend staying and dining here.
