Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe experienced many similar things that other people have written about. We found the staff very awkward and uncomfortable to engage with. There also seems to be a high number of managers not really doing much. The flooring around the pool got excruciatingly hot and is very slippy when wet. The biggest issue we had when there was that there was a large group of 20 or so men and women that had booked out the rooms (two rooms were taken up by ourselves and one other family). They dominated the hotel, restaurant, pool and playground, which they were entitled to do as they had booked so much of the accommodation but we felt we should have been contacted beforehand to be warned and we would have made other arrangements. The group brought their own sound system and threw a party that went on past midnight (again fine, but we were getting up at 5am to go on our national park tour, which I'm sure many people would do if they are staying here). After 11pm, there were only a couple of people left at the party and we saw one of the management team with them and did not tell them to turn the music off. On day two, the large group left and the hotel was more relaxing. There are street dogs that enter the grounds. We thought one of them was the hotel's dog as it approached us by the pool. After it moved away from the pool and out of sight in the grounds we heard two dogs fighting and 5 minutes later three staff members were dragging a chained dog into a car and drove off. We asked what had happened and were told "not to worry" with no other information.
The location is good for the national park. The childs pool is nice and warm and the playground is a nice addition.

SingaporeLike many people, I came to Udawalawe for the National Park and inquired about an early breakfast since I was leaving very early in the morning for my safari. The staff member I spoke with assured me they could prepare me a breakfast sandwich and water bottle that I could pick up from security in the morning and asked for the time I was leaving. The morning in question, I went down at the appointed time and couldn't find anyone at the security booth nor reception or any staff at all. I had finally given up and sat down near the parking area to await pick up when I got a message from my driver that they couldn't enter the property because the gate was closed and no one was around. I got up to look around again and finally found the security guard who knew nothing about my breakfast, but was able to let my driver in so I could make it to my tour on time. I was very disappointed and reported back to the staff upon my return. Their reaction was "we did arrange it for you, but it's fine you can just have breakfast now." Sure 5 hours later than planned. Another issue I encountered was my room was upstairs, the ceilings are high and pointed which is lovely, but I think my room had been unoccupied for a couple of days because even with the fan and AC running on full blast simultaneously, the room stayed uncomfortably warm until my second night. The power also went out a couple of times each night - it would immediately come back on, but required me resetting the AC settings :\
The property is a lovely space and tucked away, beautiful scenery. The room was spacious and clean. They offered room service that was efficient and tasty food - breakfast was a good selection each day (although please cover the fruit - it was always covered in small flies!).

Sri LankaMany of the staff don’t speak English at all, so even ordering food can be an hassle. The pool was dirty when we arrived and the staff kept assuring it was clean. The night we arrived there was a loud party and we were annoyed as the property was almost empty but the manager didn’t even bother to tell us that it was going to be loud. He kept assuring it wasn’t going to go late and after 11.30 I demanded they decreased the volume. Woke up my baby and our evening was entirely ruined. The AC wasn’t working so honestly we were incredibly upset.
The property is small and very green. The premises are beautiful and the pool is sufficiently big. It has a playground which is lovely for children and it is close to Udawalawe park. Most of the staff are extremely kind, the beds are fine not the most comfortable but ok for a night.

United KingdomWild dogs allowed outside the rooms, by the pool and by the playground. Dogs ran after my little babies twice, staff were unhelpful with the situation. Staff looked puzzled and confused when asked for anything like a WiFi code (that you had to ask yourself everyday for as it only lasted 24 hours). They lit bonfires in the middle of the day right by the pool, all children and adults were coughing by the pool as it was horrendous.
Beautifully kept location with beautiful surroundings. Sri Lankan curry and all good from the kitchen was stunning.

GermanyStaff didn’t speak and understood English well that leaded to confusion, repeating and questioning all the time, which then was considered as “asking for too much or just looking dumb”. It looked like they didn’t take much joy to create a great customer service.not very motivated. I wrote the hotel via whats app, via booking and via e mail a message to get information about safaris-I never received an answer. Loud music at pool until late though a lot of safari trips started at 5.45/6am like mine. Couldn’t sleep early because of the noise.
Hotel is close to the Nationalpark. The pool was a nice refreshment.

United KingdomI know we’re here for the national park but there’s literally nothing else around, because of this you have to eat in the restaurant and I feel like they get you with this! The food was good but with breakfast we asked for something different on the 2nd day and then just brought out the big standard full English breakfast which we didn’t want and is also the most expensive.
Great property, the rooms were amazing and the pool was great! Only 5/10 drive to the national park which was the mean reason we were here!

United KingdomIt was a shame that the Sri Lankan breakfast wasn’t available during our stay. There is also a great bar area, but unfortunately they do not serve any alcohol. We used the laundry service which was efficient, however some of the clothes smelled quite damp when they were returned to us. There is not much around the hotel so if you get caught in the rain like we did, there is very little to do.
The room was comfortable, clean and very spacious. We had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant which were both good. The staff on the whole were friendly and polite. The pool area and grounds of the hotel were beautiful and really well maintained. It was nice to be overlooking the river. The hotel organised a safari for us, which was easy to do.

ThailandNo alcohol license, they don’t have wine or beers but you can bring from outside Be careful the price I paid was not the one mentioned by booking… 10$ more …. Not a big deal but after 10 days in Sri Lanka this is the first time The person at the lobby was not nice and gave us no explanation… that too bad it's a shame the stay went relatively well but we end on a negative note

IsraelWe were literally the only guest and the sheets on the bad were dirty! Had issues with the hot water in the shower. The have two “bars” but doesn’t have license to sell alcohol. They have a sign that supposed to direct you to the pool table - there is no pool table. It fills like a show for the photos. And most of all one of the staff members told us at night that the breakfast included, we came back from the safari and got (without ordering what we want) a poor breakfast without even eggs. And we were charged 4,000 rupee!! Go somewhere else.
