How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Enjoyed our stay at Familyhouse, good location only 10 min walk to beach area and restaurants. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good.

Everything was great.
Cees, Chandi and their family were wonderful. They were so welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Their homestay, which is around a 15 minute walk to Negombo beach, was spotlessly clean and the breakfast was great. If you want somewhere to stay when you first arrive in Sri Lanka, we would not hesitate to recommend Family House. Thankyou for welcoming us in to your home.

We spent here one night after the arrival, the owner was so kind, communication was perfect, he was waiting for us at the airport right on the time and took us safely straight to our beds after a long flight. Room was nice, breakfast delicious, we felt very comfortable there. Thanks a lot for everything.

Everything was great!
I was picked up from the airport and allowed to check in early, Cees and him family were very friendly and accommodating, and provided a lovely breakfast.

Very welcoming , kind and caring hosts. Cees (you pronounce his name “Case, but not beauty-case “😂) has welcomed us very well at our arrival in Sri Lanka. He came to pick us up at the airport (with a very good price, better than Pick me and Uber). He let us sleep and they made breakfast for us even if it was very late :) he gave us a lot of useful information. Living in their house has been a beautiful experience for us, sharing their space and their day to day life was something I feel very grateful for. You feel like home. Also, you really can trust Cees, in Sri Lanka you always have to be cared because it’s unfortunately so common that if you are a tourist they charge you a lot more. Cees has been really fair and honest. We’ve also been to Negombo and we enjoyed the visit a lot. We went with tuc tuc (only 500 rupie) and we walked back in about 25 minutes by night. Safe place, lots of people on the street, illuminated…. Really good!

Chandi and Cees are a very welcoming host Cees picked me up from the airport @ 2am I call that above duty breakfast good & Chandi put in touch with a very accommodating Tuk Tuk driver Raju

I liked the quietness at the same time the company of good people.
The owners of the property really treated one as if u are part of there family. They create a relaxed and friendly environment.

There was nothing we would change about our stay.
We had a perfect stay for two nights after arriving on a very delayed flight, we were still picked up at 3.30am from Colombo airport which was well and truly going above and beyond. Absolutely perfect and accommodating hosts, the bed was also outstanding in terms of size and comfort. My partner (and one year old) would highly recommend staying here as a starting point on your trip in Sri Lanka!

The family is very kind, and it was very helpful and comprehensive of our travel necessities related to our journey finising and getting back to the airport. Many thanks. The room with the small terrace is very comfortable and clean, and the breakfast ok.

The family was super friendly, and nothing was too much. From very early morning pick up and allowing me a bed to sleep while my room was made ready. Breakfast every morning superb and kept me going till evening.. Also arranged a took took to take me on to my next hotel Would highly recommend a stay here
