Staff was very nice, receptionist (manju) was very helpful. Location was ok. Hostel also provides free breakfast and dinner. Receptionist arranges tuktuk at a reasonable rates and guided very vell. They are always willing to help. You can connect with other travelers on terrace

We visited so many non touristic places on the way to Nuwara Eliya and met a lot of local People. Highly recommended!

The pool had a lot of floaties in it, it could do with a clean. Also there are only two bathrooms stalls on each floor so there is often a wait time. The water was off for a day, I found this out from our people staying at the hostel, not the staff. It would have been nice to have communication from them on this.

The cooking class was great, as was the free dinner and breakfast. This makes socialising with other guests easy so a group of us made plans to tour around for the following day. The staff are lovely, they organised transport for all of us. Also I left my charger and earpods behind and they arranged for another traveller to take it with them so I could grab it from them in Ella. So so helpful!

Loved the group dinners at kandy backpackers! It was really social and the staff are all so lovely. It’s a little far from the centre but walkable and nice to be in a slightly quieter area.

Rooms were a bit stuffy, maybe because of the raining season

Hosts are very good, even the dog. Staying 24 nights, they made me feel at home I liked the food and spaces for me to relax and spend my quiet times at the terrace, it was very convenient to get to the places like market, banks, shops, restaurants, temples, bus stops. Just a walking distance

The private room I had was very basic and in need of a renovation. The bathroom could use a deep clean around the sink. The room was literally right beside the reception so I could hear people talking. The bedsheets were stained so that wasn’t great.

One of the warmest welcomes I’ve received in Sri Lanka, I was given some tea on arrival and showed some ideas of things to do in Kandy. The staff were great and did their best to help you as much as they could. The best part was the free cooking demonstration of Sri Lankan vegetarian curries and the meal after we cooked was free. It’s a social atmosphere and I met a lot of other travellers during the free dinner which was nice. The location is removed from the city so it’s quiet and peaceful, and not too long of a walk into town walking by the beautiful Kandy lake along the way. Breakfast was also included for free so this hostel was great value given I had 2 meals included in my rate.

Dorms are super small, not enough space to put your staff. Not enough washrooms.

Moldy bedrooms could be improved

The staff is very friendly and helps you connect with other travelers, like everyone mentions the cooking class brings the people together. Breakfast and dinner included make it a really good deal. The pool is also a good plus.

Super friendly hostel, the cooking class at night forces you to socialice so is super easy to meet people (and the food is amazing if you can handle some spice), the location is like 15 minutes walk from the city center.

It's a backpacker hostel, as I expected.

Great atmosphere, fabulous welcome and staff. Simple breakfast but the bonus is the cookery class in the evening which we got to eat. Highly recommend.

For me personally, the minus is that there is no place to dry clothes (that is, a clothesline or a dryer)

I really liked that they fed me twice, and for dinner the table was simply crowded. Of course I was pleased with the pool, although the water was cold. It was very helpful to be able to pay for everything on the day of departure, so you didn’t have to worry about funds. The staff that runs the hostel is a very nice family. And of course the dog. Was stroked by all the residents
