Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe hot water in the shower only lasted for one shower. The food catered by the hotel, whilst it was really nice, was expensive (£100+ for two).
The setting was beautiful, pool was lovely. Staff were friendly and the room was a nice size. It was nice to be outside of Kandy in the hills rather than in the town.

United StatesWhile the Sri Lankan food was great, the Club Sandwich we had for a change of pace was the worst we’ve ever had by far - literally embarrassingly bad - too much bone dry powdery bread (not proper toast) and hardly any filling. Overseas prices in USD for food leaves one feeling taken advantage of.
Most everything was terrific, especially the design, grounds and staff.

United StatesDinner was good but everything was marked up in USD - that’s an overreach.
The room was spectacular and the main building was classic SL/Kandian with a Bawa feel and the back yard, garden and pool were beautiful. Breakfast was tremendous.

United Arab EmiratesWe really liked the privacy offered by the hotel. It is ideal for someone who wants to spend time in a quiet place with natural beauty all around you. The staff was super friendly and showed high service levels. The food was delicious and tea served justice to the legacy of Ceylon tea. Though it is priced high compared to other properties, it is justified with the exclusivity it offers

Exceptional hotel. The hospitality and attention to detail at this hotel is phenomenal. From the moment you drive through the gate you are greeted with friendly faces and outstanding service. The presentation of the rooms and turn down service is beautiful. The food in the restaurant was also delicious. We felt truly spoilt and were sad to leave.

United StatesSri Lanka marks my 37th country, and because of this world-class boutique hotel, Kandy has risen to my top favorite places on earth. For a small few accommodations, Sri Lanka offers’ ‘Level 1 Hotels’ for travelers that must quarantine upon arrival. This cutting-edge ‘bio-bubble’ methodology is to help safeguard the health and safety of not only the hotel guests but locals. Truly innovative and should be mirrored by other countries as they begin to open for tourism. My guide and Marketing and Sales Director Angelo was incredible. Everything from the food, massage therapy, and day excursions with an awesome ‘Pilot’ driver was well planned and thoughtful. Angelo and his team were very attentive, even helping navigate the complex process of entering the country from California, Doha, and Colombo. Kings Pavilion has a peaceful atmosphere. The hotel has a nostalgic blend of historic colonial architecture and humble design, with a relaxing spa and swimming pool (perfect for a chic photo). The property gardens are lush and well maintained. Angelo upgraded me before arrival and my jaw dropped upon entering the 1000 square foot of space overlooking the remarkably green backdrop of Kandy. My room was gorgeous with a large bathroom space with even a European jacuzzi tub. Breakfast and dinners were delicious each day between western and Asian choices, Sri Lankan being my favorite. Everything the Kings Pavilion staff does is well executed and done with love. It was a perfect getaway and a powerful introduction to the ‘teardrop jewel nation’ of the Indian Ocean. I look forward to staying here on my next trip in Kandy and highly recommend reaching out to Angelo Gibson. A proud Sri Lankan, he knows the country well. Having a dedicated guide and national ambassador like him is everything. They can make or break an experience!
Exceptional Location, World-Class Staff!
