How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The accommodations were cozy and clean, giving us a taste of village life. When we went on the udawalawa safari, we saw so many incredible things - bird nests, crocodiles in the lake and even elephants! anyway thank you maika for everyting.

I had an amazing stay, everybody is extremely kind and helpful. The breakfast is very good as well. I did the safari with them and it was great, our driver/guide was easy to understand and he shared a lot of information about the animals and national park.

The cottage is absolutely beautiful, even more than what the pictures show. It’s spacious with everything you could need. We also appreciated and parking space. Great location as well.

This hotel was the best hotel during our vacation in Sri Lanka. The hosts were incredible, really welcoming, helped us to organize a Safari last minute with them (really recommended but the way - not the tourist typical tour). The dinner and breakfast proposed were fantastic. Thank you so much for this night !

A beautiful hotel near the Udawalawe National Park. Food was great, lots of choices for breakfast, dinner, we were welcomed and looked after by friendly staff.

The property was very clean. Two large beds comfortable. Hot but with fan is ok. The manager is very kind and helpful, he was there to make our stay nice. Some cockroaches in the room but it’s nature, can’t do anything about that. The place is very calm and close 10 minutes from city center to buy fruits or dinner. Safari is good but not wow. We couldn’t see a lot of elephants. Probably the day wasn’t the best for it. But seen some mangooses. They were cute.

I totally enjoyed staying one night at Maika’s Safari Lodge. The people were great and friendly. They helped me with any question I had. The room and the bathroom were both clean. The room itself was spacious and perfect for one night. Not to forget the dinner: very delicious! The safari they organized was great and we had a very friendly driver. I can totally recommend this place.

The owner is very kind and, friendly. He arrenge for us udawalawa safari .it is excellent. We saw lot of elephants. Also he arrenge sri lankan rice and curry to the dinner. It is soo diliecious as well as breakfast is soo good. We during wonderful time this lodge. We Highly recommend.

Bed was super comfy and large. Hosts were very friendly. Dinner was amazing! Safari was great. Quiet location. Nice veranda to sit at. Can't fault it.

The staff were really friendly and welcoming. Delicious food. Quite and relaxing place . Room was clean, big and comfortable. Many famous attractions close enough to reach within a half an hour. Awesome experience!!

Very beautiful and clean rooms. Nice boss, who is very helpfull. He arranged a cheaper trip to udawalawa park for us, gave us plenty of packed water and coffee and good price for an apartment.

I couldn't recommend it more. Perfect place to stay while visiting the National Park. The owner will help you with everything, plus good meals and a nice view from a room.
