There are always minor areas of improvement. However, nothing that need to be mentioned here that take away from all the positives for this place.

1. The most positive factor about this property is its staff. Madhu and the other boys are genuinely friendly with a can-do attitude. 2. The property has a swimming pool right next to the paddy fields, which makes for some very Instagrammey pictures. 3. Waking up every morning to peacock calls is a unique experience. I was informed that the resort's name is the Sinhalese word for "peacock". Truly a selling point. How often do you get to wake up in the morning to find a gorgeous peacock perched on a tree next to your room :) 4. I love the sustainable approach of the property, investing time and effort in their vegetable gardens and including the fresh, organic produce in their Sri Lankan fare (not an easy task at all). On an unrelated note, being in the heart of a rural setup, one has to be open to certain creepy crawlies (small frogs and bugs) making their way around the room. I mention this not as a negative aspect (since the property does a great job of co-existing with nature), but more for travelers to have right expectations.

Could be cleaner, especially the bathroom was a little worn down.

Very nice premises with pool overlooking rice fields. Comfortable bed and good airco. We had very pleasant and interesting chats with the hotel manager who spoke excellent English. He also helped us to arrange our travel. Dinner and breakfast buffet were both very tasty.

Nothing, everything was great !

The location: Set away from the hustle and bustle of the new city, very easily accessible by TukTuk, and ideally situated for moving within the archaeological park of Anuradhapura. We find ourselves lost, in peace, amidst a beautiful landscape of rice fields with magnificent atmospheres at sunrise and sunset surrounded by birds and small squirrels. (Pleasantly surprised: I saw no mosquitoes). The accommodation and services: beautiful room, very large and with a superb bathroom! The pool was also beautiful, well-maintained with a very nice view of the rice fields. The manager and the service members are very friendly. They found us a very nice tuktuk driver to visit the ruins at very reasonable prices who also agreed to take us to our next destination at the end of the stay: Sigiriya. Breakfast and dinner can be had on-site and are very good. The manager grows many vegetables and fruits in his garden which adds a nice touch. PS: the small Buddhist temple on the heights of one of the buildings adds a spiritual charm to the place with a distant view of the magnificent stupas of the archaeological park emerging from the jungle, and incense burning at sunset.

Mosquito spray in the room would have been very useful. We had a lot of mosquitoes the first night, but we went out and bought some room spray which worked like a charm!

The staff were all so warm and friendly. The food was wonderful and, as we were the only people eating on the second night, the chef knocked and asked what we would like, then made it for us. Very nice pool overlooking paddy fields.

We chose Monaara Resort last minute because our original hotel that evening was disappointing. In addition, there was a major power stop. Despite these circumstances and the late time, we were warmly welcomed and offered a delicious meal. The hotel staff did everything they could to make things as good as possible for us despite the power stop. Our room was clean, spacious and met our expectations. The pool was also clean. The staff is very friendly, thinks in terms of solutions and can, for example, arrange bicycles to explore Anuradhapura. The breakfast was delicious and very extensive, perhaps the best breakfast we had on our tour through Sri Lanka.Finally, the hotel manager arranged a very affordable transfer to our next hotel. We had a very good and friendly driver who took us along a beautiful route in his spacious tuk tuk and told us about his country. Compliments to all staff, our driver and the hotel manager, we highly recommend this hotel and would love to come back.

On a note, Just that small patio in the bathroom wasn't 100 percent clean. But it was just a small minor issue.

Luke and the other staff were all exceptionally helpful and accommodating, couldn't fault our stay. They went above and beyond at every opportunity. Monaara also provides bicycle rentals which is a great way to see the Anuradhapura. Food was also delicious, with a great selection available for all meals but especially for dinner
