Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe welcome we recieved at moonlight guest house was fantastic - we were talked through everything about the property and about the safari we had booked with them for the following morning. The safari itself was incredible - we were taken out by the owner's brother and saw lots of elephants including a few babies and a tusker - and we managed to spot a couple of leopards too. We had a packed breakfast with drinks and snacks to keep us going through the safari and were treated to an absolutely delicious lunch when we got back. We were only staying one night but our host let us leave all our bags in our room and even shower when we arrived back at about 12:30. All in all, great service and a great stay!

United KingdomAs mentioned elsewhere, there's only a curtain dividing the room from the toilet. Fine for me as a lone traveller, but potentially awkward for those sharing.
It was a large room with very comfy bed. The breakfast was decent and served outside in the garden. Lots of fresh fruit, tea and toast, etc. I had pre-booked my safari but I wish I had waited. The owner organises his own, and it seems I could have saved a fair bit of money had I waited and gone direct.

United KingdomWe had a great stay at Moon Light Guest House. The family who run this place are so lovely and organised a great safari for us. Our safari driver / guide was really knowledgable about Yala National Park and the animals and we managed to spot a leopard and see lots of elephants and other wildlife up close. Upon returning from the safari we had a lovely home-cooked curry and rice. Can’t recommend this place enough!

IrelandNo problems. The room itself, while clean and comfortable, was very basic.
The place was very nice and clean. There was a beautiful garden to relax in and enjoy nature. Our host was so helpful and provided such a delicious lunch after our safari. He also organised the safari for us and a driver to take us to our next stop after our stay. Would definitely recommend. It was a very smooth stay.

GermanyThe accommodation is not directly in the town, but about 15 minutes away on foot. However, the hosts will drive you and there are plenty of tuk tuks available
One of the best nights we had in Sri Lanka. The hosts are very accommodating and take very good care of you. The room was spacious and very clean. The shower still had hot water even with 4 people in it. We also had the opportunity to have dinner there.

The host was very welcoming and accommodating. I was lucky to have a room upgrade to something bigger. I did not use the safari package offered by the host, as I booked all my tours in advance. However, I did speak to another guest who used his service and was very satisfied. I only stayed here one night and it was perfect, clean, and very cozy. I was given a packed breakfast as I left early morning for the safari. It was very thoughtful. I was also offered a late checkout so that I could come back and shower after the safari.

United KingdomWe had a lovely stay so I wouldn't say there was anything I didn't like!
We had a brilliant stay at Moon Light Guest House. The room was nice and had air con. We were treated to a lovely dinner and breakfast and they were able to provide us with vegan food. We organised to go on an all day safari tour to Yala National Park through the Guest House and I'm so glad we did it - we had an amazing day with a really nice driver. It all depends on luck but we managed to see sloth bear, leopards, elephants and crocodiles among other animals within the Park. Moon Light Guest House is in a great location for safari. We also ate out a couple of times in Tissa, which was nice, too. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful. I'd happily stay again if I was visiting Yala National Park. The tour and the hotel all felt like great value for money.

Owner of the guesthouse is extremely friendly. He provides tours to Yala National Park which is a must visit when you come to Sri Lanka. Outdoors of the guesthouse is a welcoming rice paddy field - a good view to wake up to. Air was refreshing in the morning! The breakfast served was homely and delicious. Definitely worth the money. Room was cozy and clean. Highly recommend to stay here.

AustraliaNothing really, maybe a bit harder bed but that is our preference not really a fault.
Loved the hammocks in the garden, being in the middle of the rice fields. The boat tour Sanjeewa organised for us and the safari. They even cooked dinner for us one night which was wonderful. Breakfast was great (I have never had buffalo curd and honey before but you should try it with fruit). One of our best stays in Sri Lanka. As you can see by photos we saw lots of birds and animals unfortunately reviews only allow a certain number of photos. Thank you Sanjeewa, sorry it has taken me so long to post. PS and we say a leopard on safari!!!!!!!

We booked this property for two nights as we wanted to do the full day safari and relax after the safari. I’m glad we did as we were very very tired after. The owner booked us on a private safari through him. The price included breakfast, snacks and lunch and refreshments throughout the day. It was incredible. Our first safari. When we returned from the safari we had a delicious home cooked Sri Lankan meal. In the morning auntie had made the biggest Sri Lankan breakfast of curry, dhal, hoppers, roti, egg, fresh fruit platter, pancakes and the buffalo curd with honey. It was delicious and we were full all day. The rice paddies was such a great view whilst enjoying our breakfast. The owner booked us a taxi from Marissa to moonlight and then our onward travel to Ella at a very fair price. The communication was excellent from start to finish. Thank you we both had a fantastic time.

United StatesMr Sanjiwa and Auntie welcomed me with a nice refreshing glass of orange juice and showed me to my room. It was clean and the AC worked well. It can get quite hot in the area so that's a nice plus. The bed was comfortable and the shower water was hot. The grounds are very beautiful and well-manicured. Two hammocks for relaxing and stargazing. Other swinging chairs and nooks for relaxing and reading or just viewing the beautiful rice fields surrounding the property. It is quite a special place. The lake is within a 15-20 minute walk and there are some good restaurants. Make sure to get to the lake before 6 pm to watch the amazing bat and bird migratory pattern take place. Tissa is a beautiful entry point to Yala. A nature lover's dream. Moon Light arranged a half-day safari trip that started at 4:30 am and lasted until about 12:30 pm. It was plenty of time to see the highlights of the park and catch a glimpse of incredible wildlife. They prepare a packed lunch with drinks, sandwiches and snacks, plenty for the day's journey. Just bring your camera (one with a good zoom and megapixel count). Phones work but I highly suggest a point-and-shoot camera for this excursion as you will be viewing wildlife at a distance. It was very safe and our guide knew all the ins and outs of the park. We were in route when all of a sudden he stopped and made a u-turn. We dashed to an area around the bend and pulled up to a caravan of jeeps waiting for leopards. A mother and cub crossed our path about 50 meters away. It was exhilarating. There are only about 20-30 in the park and no guarantee of seeing them. We saw elephants, crocodiles, buffalo, mongoose, monitor lizards, spotted deer, peacocks, many bird species etc. It seemed that everywhere I looked something was alive. It was one of the highlights of my first trip to Sri Lanka. Thanks to Moon Light for accomodating me and I look forward to returning for a longer stay next time and hope to see the sloth bear.

AustraliaNothing. My only tip is to bring your own large bottles of water as only small bottles are sold on site - but there are little stalls you can buy from.
Everything. The staff are so friendly and accomodating, they will help book a great safari tour. The accomodation was so comfortable and clean and everything in great condition. The location is close enough to walk to town but far away enough it is serene. The breakfast is just phenomenal.

GermanyOur room was without a good view - but who cares if you stay for one night and will be on a great Safari Tour the next morning.
We stayed here for one night, because we wanted to go on a Safari in the early morning hours. The whole communication with the guesthouse was perfect from the very start. Every question we had online was answered more or less immediately. The very friendly and helpful owner gave us all safari options online - so that we could choose already from home what we would like to do. The rooms are simple but have air con and have all the necessities you need for a good stay. There is also a very nice garden area where you can sit and look out over the rice fields. We also had dinner here and it was good value. But the best thing about this place are the safaris they organise for their guests. We booked a private Safari and we had a really great experience. Our driver collected us at 4:45 in the morning and drove us to Yala NP. He was very knowledgable and gave us the opportunity to see elefants, buffalos, birds and even a leopard - what a great experience. Included in the price was also breakfast to go, water, soft drinks and later in the guesthouse - lunch. A very big plus for us was the possibility to stay in our room until we came back from the Safari around noon. So that we could have a shower and change our clothes - this was really great service! The Lunch was traditional Curry and Rice with a wide variety of different curries and all of them were really tasty. Fun Fact - the rice was red rice from the rice fields you were looking at from the restaurant. They can also organise a driver for you if you want to go on to Mirissa. The price and service of the driver was perfect so that we could transfer to the coast after the Safari fast and safe in no time! Altogether we had a really great experience here and would recommend this place for everyone who is planning a trip to Yala NP.
