Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

RussiaA waterfall from the air conditioner during the night 😄 surprisingly, it felt OK, but we had to put towels under the air conditioner for the night.
Old historic place, with small museum inside; really great historic colonial architecture. Staff was very friendly, they even replace wifi router to the corridor closer to our room when I said that connection is unstable. Exceptional breakfest in beautiful dining room. Welcome coconuts were a good bonus 🙂

AustraliaI stayed 3 nights, and I loved the hotel, but I thought for this price point and compared to other hotels in Sri Lanka, the staff were the weak point. Overall, most of them didn't speak much English, so I couldn't get much helpful advice. (One young man on the PM shift did assist me in getting an airport taxi though). One morning I was woken up at 6.30AM by the staff blasting music throughout the hotel. Some of them tried hard to communicate and were nice, but I'm sorry to say that the two young women in white uniforms were the most morose people I met in my entire 3 weeks in Sri Lanka. It is possible that they were very nervous and lacking in confidence which affected their bearing. I never saw them smile and certainly they need to be trained properly on how to use the espresso machine as they made really bad coffee. There were lots of small things that caused confusion: Where is the reception?! Make it clear at check-in about the hotel and things such as room cleaning as my room was never cleaned. Someone offered to clean it the afternoon before I was set to leave, but it felt too late; One of the staff told me I could pay in $US but it turned out that only the room could be paid in $US not the bar & food bill, so I was left short of Rupees when I settled with no time to change money; the bed was made up really strangely with the sheet only reaching my waist. Finally, I think they should be upfront about the costs on Booking.com. Include all the taxes.
Location is fantastic and the ambiance and decor are wonderful. The breakfast and other food was great (albeit rather pricey) and the chef prepared a delicious takeaway breakfast when I left very early.

RussiaThe restaurant did not have 80% of the menu items
The corner of colonial chic and silence in the very noisy city of Kandy. The interior features a lot of precious wood and charming antique elements, and the courtyard is built like a patio. The rooms are clean, cool and stylish. Coconuts as a welcome drink. The most amazing thing is that the hotel has its own museum! With many photographs, postcards, posters. There is an interesting photo of the hotel facade taken in 1918.

United KingdomNothing. It was absolutely excellent!
Best hotel we've stayed at in Sri Lanka. We arrived to a fresh drink and cold towels. Our room was super comfortable and stylish. Everything was well decorated and our room had plenty of sunlight. The bed was massive and we had good lighting options. There was also a fridge and a safe and water in the room The food in the hotel restaurant was really good and the breakfast was also tasty. Also had one of the best cocktails here! Would 100% recommend to anyone who is in Kandy.

Very authentic and cute hotel. Colonial style. The open court yard added to the atmosphere. The room was decorated in keeping with the rest of the hotel and we adored it! The hotel and its staff were welcoming and very attentive making sure we had all we needed. The breakfast was delicious. A mixture of fresh local fruit, eggs to your likening, bread and jam. Sri Lanka may be known for its tea but the coffee at the hotel was exquisite! During our trip to Sri Lanka we visisted the hotel twice and will go back if in Kandy again!

United KingdomNothing. I liked it all and it is in a great location too!
The hotel was a fabulous old colonial building which had retained its period charm with appropriate furniture and decor to fit the period. There are lovely old prints on the hotel walls and in the room too. The room is beautiful with lovely old furniture and a nice en-suite attached. The breakfasts are enormous and beautifully prepared and served. To top it all the staff are absolutely brilliant! They are so kind, polite, helpful and have a lovely manner. Risantha was especially kind and organised a driver for the next stage of my travels. The hotel managed my laundry and it came beautifully washed and ironed. I can’t fault this hotel. I would stay there again with pleasure!

I liked the design of the place: both in the room and in common areas. The hotel has a structure of a traditional house. Together with the autentic furniture and the interior design this gives a unique impression of traveling back in time (but with the comfort of modern time). The facilities in the room are very good. Very good water pressure and regulation of water temperature! Also it is the only hotel during our trip where there was an iron! The location is very central. Just a few minutes walk from the temple.

Australia- Western breakfast only. (Do we still eat white toast from which the crust has been removed?) - Pricing with additional 25% in the fine-print. I looked at the last 20 or so bookings and only one place had a similar obscured price (though only additional 10%, which in that case was $4). Maybe Booking.com is to blame, too, for allowing such misleading pricing. Photos show the price in the email confirmation, the overview in the app, and the detailed view in the app.
Colonial style building, very sweet staff, very central location.

Excellent heritage property, bang in the middle of old town Kandy with all sights within walking distance. A lot of restaurants around, covering most cuisines. The hotel is in the middle of town so you get the local feel and ye the rooms are placed at the back to avoid most noise. The property has an excellent bar...duh in the name also with a perfect setting in an internal courtyard. Breakfast has several optional items to order - my cheese omlette and bacon was perfecctt ! All in all, a great place to enjoy Kandy
