Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomVery little. Unfamiliar as westerners are with the Islands religious festivals and public holidays, did not dawn on us that a full moon would signify a POYA day, broadly a Buddhist day of fast during which the sale and consumption in public premises of alcohol is forbidden. We did not realise this until the day, too late to ensure we had a beer or two in the minibar. The management handled this with charm and soft drinks were available at dinner. It did me no harm, but on balance it may have been wise to advertise the fact the day before for those a little more reliant on alcohol. It may have damaged soft drink sales, but I suspect would have satisfied more people than it angered. To my mind no harm done and nothing the staff could do about, it’s the law of the land after
The pool was beautiful, some shade well maintained and very warm. The room was spacious and well equipped. Dining at any time was a pleasure, food variety and quality really good. We had breakfast and dinner, both of which were served by charming and attentive staff. The hotels location was ideal for the climb up Sigiriya Rock and the staff were very helpful in ensuring we got to the Rock early, with a packed breakfast and then back again in time to enjoy a more leisurely full breakfast. A lovely peaceful setting with excellent gardens, all the better for the excellent staff in every capacity. The management team were always on hand to assist, particularly Prasad. I would have liked to have stayed longer and would certainly return.

United KingdomIt is fairly remote, with no other restaurants/shops around it. So unless you want to spend all your time at the hotel (food is available there) you will need to travel in and out of Sigiriya town for some atmosphere. Be aware you only get 1 free bottle of water per day, ask for water from the jug at breakfast, or you will be charged for bottled water! We did have a couple of very small frogs in our bathroom (life in the jungle I suppose). They are no bother really, they just hide when they see you.
You get a real feel of living in the jungle. It has monkeys roaming the premises. The rooms are spacious, and air conditioning is good. Breakfast was nice, you can get an traditional English breakfast or a Sri Lankan experience, along with bread/cake basket. Staff are very nice and are always happy to help. The pool is nice and you can listen to the sounds of the jungle. The weather was amazing when we were there, 34c and bright blue skies. The hotel, has an onsite SPA. Situated about 20mins in a tuk tuk from Sigiriya town, you will find some cafes and restaurants there. Sigiriya town is only a 5 minute tuk tuk from Sigiriya Rock. We got a complementary bag of snacks and water for our onward journey.

SloveniaThere was a dispute right at the beginning because the spa prices that were published on the English site (meaning the site that is ment for the tourists) were then three- to four times more expensive when arriving at the hotel. The issue couldn't be resolved, but the spa treatments, though more expensive than published, were nonetheless worth every rupee.
That the hotel was pretty much empty so we could have the premises pretty much to ourselves. The hotel is exceptional.

The rooms were clean and beautifully laid out. in the morning breakfast buffet was great with a mix of Sri Lankan and continental dishes. But it was the large black-tile swimming pool under the banyan tree that made such a great stay for me - it was absolutely the best To arrive at the hotel after hiking the golden temple rock caves and take a plunge. Did the same the next morning after hiking Sigiryia, which the hotel also arranged for me with their resident tuk-tuk driver. They also have a full bar and room service.

United KingdomRoom and bedding seemed a little damp. There had been a lot of rain, so in a way understandable. The pool was unusable. As always in Sri Lanka, they always charge 30 quid more than you think you're going to pay, due of course to the "exchange rate". Road to hotel could do with tarmaccing!
Staff were excellent. Waiting and kitchen staff couldn't have been more attentive or helpful. Food really nice.

BelgiumThe hotel has a lot of potential but the bathrooms need some improvements. There were some leaks and it was very moisty as well. There were two small frogs, also a mushroom groing from the floor. The payment terminal was not working so when we needed to check out, we needed to go 5km further to take cash. The description of the hotel on booking.com said that there were 3 restaurants on site. During our stay was only 1 of them operating due to the post Covid situation. I completely understand that, hotel was not full but may be you need to mention it in the description cause this was an important factor for us to choose that hotel over other hotels.

AustraliaHad an amazing time at this hotel! The food was divine, and the pool and gym were on point with great facilities. The staff were super friendly, always ready to help with a smile. The landscaping has been thoughtfully carried out and really makes you feel like you’re in a slice of paradise and the spa really seals the deal. Stunning blend of tradition and comfort when it comes to the architectural approach of the hotel. Whether chilling in the room or wandering the grounds, every moment was pure relaxation.
