How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

It can get really warm without AC at night, But they got us an xtra ventilator, thank you!

There are massive holes above doors and windows uncovered by any glass, which is a wonderful invittation for any kinds of insects and lizards. Of course it also makes the room noisy.
The place has its charm and is super close to my most favourite beach in Sri Lanka - Hiriketiya Beach.

Hiriketiya was one of our favourite stops in Sri Lanka. It is so relaxing! This homestay is very close to the beautiful beach and very quiet. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Unfortunately there was no AC so it was very very hot in our room (also because there was an opening above the door and window, so all the hot air was coming in). The staff also didn’t pay much attention to us.

There was no one cleaning our room during our stay of 3 days, but in general it was really nice!
It was very little money for what you got. Very helpful staff, we could even leave our big luggage there, while we went for a few days to another location. The best thing for us was the vegan cafe right next our door 😍

Too hot - needs air con No soap Blind in window needs to work as little daylight. Add at least a kettle General atmosphere
It was in a good location close to restaurants and the beach. Not far from the main Road and bus stop so walkable. It had a vegan cafe on site. We stayed in a deluxe double room on the first floor overlooking the front. The room was large with a large comfy bed. The bathroom was ok but little or no hot or warm water and no soap or toiletries. Even for the cost it was basic. It had a strange bit added on with a sink and work surface but nothing else; no fridge or kettle. The main issue was the heat; no air con only a fan which in other places was fine but not here. It was stifling hot, it felt like you could hardly get your breath! Tbh the staff were totally disinterested and not particularly welcoming.

could of benefited from Air Con but the fan kept it cool enough! we are just used to the food being from Britain!
a lovely clean property right in the middle of the action in Hiriketiya. great private bathroom, little outdoor table and chairs and a great host who helped us catch a bus to Ella after our stay.

Wifi issue but all good!
Lovely family, great clean room, everything we needed. Except wifi wasn’t working (although it was often not working in the town due to power cuts) short walk from the beach, Hiriketiya was our fav beach in Sri Lanka, would go again.

We found the staff to not be particularly welcoming when we arrived, no one said hello to us or acknowledged our arrival. Our room was downstairs and we were kept awake all night by people above as well as the hotel dog. The rooms downstairs also get very hot at night and there is no air con available.
Surf Nest is a great hotel if staying by Hiriketiya Bay, it is near to all the local restaurants and cafes as well as the beach. The room was clean although basic

Surf’s nest is a nice private place just a couple minutes walk from the beach. The vegan cafe beside it offers cheap and delicious food. Surf nest also offer an affordable tuktuk service. The shop attached supplies basic needs such as water and snacks and also toiletries which makes it a convenient location. There are restaurants along the street.

Awesome location and relaxed, friendly hosts. I extended my stay multiple times because it was walking distance to Hiriketiya Beach and many great cafes/restaurants.

Small room with no wardrobe for clothes. Bathroom wasn’t clean, cobwebs everywhere. I would expect cleaner room for the money.
