Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceThe heydays of Lord Mountbatten are gone! Everything is crumbling down. The bed mattress was horribly hard, the bath towels were worn out, so was the furniture in the bedroom. We had diner at the buffet , but as the hotel welcomes groups, there was literally nothing left to eat; we asked for food: the waiters said yes, it's coming, but nothing came.
It's a historical landmark! The architecture is beautiful and reflects the colonial times.

SpainWith the exception of the General Manager hardly anyone spoke english, specifically at the reception. No towels in my room and it took 45 minutes to get them. The staff is willing but untrained. The food was acceptable but no more than that.
Location, old colonial style.

Amazing location, easy to walk the 10 mins in to Kandy around the lake, great path, shaded and lots of wildlife to look at along the way.

HungaryIt is in old building, if you're looking for something modern, choose a different place.
We spent one night here. It was a Saturday. Our room had windows to the yard where a group was having a party with loud music. They finished at around 10pm. This hotel is an old building. Some parts are a little bit tired. The breakfast was nice.

NetherlandsVery old hotel, a lot of things didn’t work as it should be. Staff friendly but not very capable, didn’t know where to point out the hotel on the map by example. Very early in the morning the gardener started mowing the grass, why?
The location was good, rooms clean and big, good balcony, good beds, friendly staff.

United KingdomThe problem was both political and pandemic related; there were only 3 guests. The staff however have maintained nearly all the expected hotel services; and the restaurant is open for meals - even for 1-3 people.
The Hotel Suisse is well located on the Lake Round; the room was comfortable with all usual facilities; staff excellent service. outside areas also well maintained with good gardens for such a central city location. Pool super.

Czech Republicvery dirty balcony, broken and dirty pool and playground area, no meal choice for kids, very poor buffet for vegetarian
Historical building, nice seating area in the garden, life music during dinner time, first we got rooms with broken and dirty windows and with bad smell (stale, mold) and because we were not happy with it, they changed our rooms which were more comfortable and clean

NetherlandsWell one of the rare Kandy hotels where the price in USD has considerably gone down over the last 10 years. Reason is lack of investment/renovation. So yes e.g. curtains and stairs and elevators get a little bit dated feel. But it's still spotlessly clean and quite okay, a lot better than its sibling hotel in town Queens!
Great belle-epoque place. Spacious rooms, nice pool, nice lake view from one of the rooms, and walking distance to the city centre. Nice buffet breakfast.

Sri LankaI regret not asking for an easily accessible room. It was a long walk and had no lift up to that floor. Room floor was in need of a good cleaning, some amenities need fixing. Current shortages are beginning to show. Buffets have only a few options on offer and run out of things pretty soon. We had a fairly good sized room, with a large balcony. But the balcony has not been cleaned, it was rather unappealing. Monkeys were there, so may not be safe to open the balcony door anyway.
This is our second stay here. We'd choosen this for a 2-night stay because we had a good stay and a clean room few years back. But the hotel feels a little rundown. However, the location is quite convenient to visit the city and around. Staff were overall very friendly and helpful.
