What’s not to like?! Perhaps a small mini fridge in the room or tea/coffee making facilities would have been nice, but certainly not a big deal.

One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. I felt like a privileged house guest in this beautifully decorated colonial style hotel. It had an incredible 1930s vibe that would make the perfect setting for an Agatha Christie murder mystery! If Hercule Poirot had turned up in the library to partake in a tisane I wouldn’t have been surprised! The location was utterly breathtaking, the rooms were charming and super stylish and the jazz music playing in the background created the perfect ambience. The owner is a very entertaining character and should be incredibly proud of what he has achieved here. It’s a truly exceptional hotel and estate and I am not one to give praise lightly! I would return to Sri Lanka just to stay here again.

The drive up the dirt track was a little challenging but more because we weren’t in a four by four

This place is gorgeous from the moment you step into the house your taken through a beautiful house with art deco and 1900 vibes, surrounded by palms and coconut trees and a gorgeous pool open all evening, excellent staff service and food. I could stay here for a month. The Room was gorgeous too light room and airy with prob the most comfy bed ever. David the owner was lovely as to where the staff and the family of Terriers.

AMAZING… everything was just perfect, it exceeded expectations. Such a beautiful colonial style building restored with great quality furniture, design and great attentions to details. I don t have enough place here to express how great we felt. We were the only guests (our group) which made the experience even better. And the pool.. super clean, with amazing view. Take a tour around the property on the trails, it is amazing. - very confortable and large rooms; - food was also amazing, great breakfast, also din er we tried local food, very good. - it is a secluded location, in the middle of nature, away from traffic and crowds, so enjoy it at its best Mr Angelo was very nice and explained everything And the library ❤️ All of us loved our stay here! By the way: the detailed photos from booking are extremely accurate.

An absolute highlight during our trip to Sri Lanka - beautifully redone colonial estate with amazing indoor and outdoor areas (including a large pool - great for swimming laps or just enjoying the panoramic views across the hills and jungle). Super nice owners and staff - loved also the dinner! Overall cannot recommend The Flame Tree Estate enough - an absolute gem!

A very stylishly restored historic estate full of artistic touches. We loved the beautiful gardens with the high palm trees and colorful flowers. We were blown away by exceptional high quality dinner and breakfast.

We arrived much later than planed. The staff was so helpful, waiting for us, reopened the kitchen and saved us from starvation ;-).. The place is definitely quite remote, but in such a stunning and beautiful landscape, wow. The rooms we're fantastic, amazing shower, everything nicely and lovingly furnished. We only stayed one night and definitely regretted that. Would have loved to stay a few more days, go walking, maybe a cooking class and just enjoy the hotel and the very beautiful pool, even long enough for a decent swim. In the end a fantastic place, but the best ist definitely the lovely staff. Thanks for a great stay, Claudia & Patrick

Glorious jungle location, stunning property lovingly restored by its owners with a lovely friendly team of staff who were so helpful and kind - and top quality food. Divine swimming pool. Grounds full of fruit and spice trees and full of birds and wildlife.

We enjoyed everything about this stay! For us this place was great to explore sights nearby Kandy, as well as a region around Sigiriya. Afterwards it was pleasant to return to the hotel and have a rest away from noise and rush. There were everything we needed in the room. Dinners and breakfasts were delightful. There is plenty of wildlife around the hotel that you can meet. We found management of the hotel very professional and attentive. It is impossible to describe all about the villa and facilities of the hotel in short review. We can just advise to stay here if you are traveling in Sri Lanka.

This really is a gem of a place, absolute luxury, fantastic food, attentive (but lots of privacy), the rooms are beautifully designed for comfort and style. We absolutely loved it! I will most definately be back :)

Everything! The Flame Tree has been designed with so much thought and attention that there was nothing we didn’t like. It is the perfect retreat. An oasis of calm that nourishes the soul. It is close to Kandy so you can easily visit but far enough away that the hustle and noise is left behind. David the owner is fabulous and really makes you feel welcome and right at home (along with the gorgeous Bianca and her tribe!). The house has so much to explore and we loved the library and chilling by the pool. The grounds themselves are stunning and well worth a walk around, and if you’re really lucky you can feed the goats! Special shout out to Hirath who is so knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife and has a wicked sense of humour to top it off! Oh and I haven’t mentioned the food yet! It was beautiful! Dinner has an amazing menu that changes daily and is designed to be a delicious and overall delightful experience. We didn’t want to leave!
