Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Czech RepublicThe location is something to consider. If you like to stay in the jungle and see monkeys from the swimming pool - it’s is awesome, but if you want to be able to quickly reach Una, or other city, or better beaches than the one next to hotel, you have to count with ~1000 LKR for tuktuk every time you go out of villa or get back. We did not enjoy the breakfast much as well, but other dishes in the cafe we ordered were fine.
We stayed in double deluxe room with pool view, and it was one of the most surprising, unusual and exciting rooms we have been to in Sri Lanka. We entered it and gasped - we had alive fish in the aquarium in the bathroom, and our furniture was made out of concrete, with one wall being literally a rock. We also really loved the pool, it’s big, clean. overall staff takes good care of the facilities with keeping it beautiful and clean.

United KingdomMinor thing but the floor in our room could be quite slippery if we wore socks!
We loved the location of this place. Yes it's a trek from the town (we tried to walk it one day but it was too hot so got a tuktuk), but we enjoyed being away from the hustle and bustle of the town. Our room had a beautiful view and we enjoyed watching lightning storms, as well as monkeys from our room. The room was beautiful - huge and very well designed. The breakfasts were also good. We didn't have the evening meals, which looked expensive compared to other restaurants. If in the area we'd stay again.

United KingdomThe bar didn't have a lot of choice but they were always prepared to go out and get wine for us.
We really enjoyed our stay here at Horizon Hill top. The staff were very accommodating and friendly for our weeks stay. We really enjoyed our outdoor bathrooms. The swimming pool was lovely and had a toilet and shower right next to it. We loved seeing monkeys every day even on our bathroom roof and also saw lots of other wildlife around the hotel. We met the friendly family half way down the drive to the hotel who have a tuktuk and we're always available to help us get from place to place. We were within walking distance from turtle beach. We got to swim and feed the turtles here on a few occasions. Other beaches and Galle were a short drive away in taxi or tuktuk and well worth visiting. Being slightly out of the main town (Unawatuna) we felt we got a better feel to Sri Lanka life.

BelgiumThe rooms are a bit dated, with quite old bed linen. There was a strong humidity smell specially in the bathroom. Very weak wifi signal in the room.
Great location on the top of a hill with amazing jungle and sea view. The staff was very friendly serving a quite decent breafkast.

United KingdomStayed in the deluxe double with pool view which was great and unique - the room is built into the rock and there’s a fish tank built into the bathroom. Great value for money. Breakfast was really good, with a choice of western, local or American pancakes. Local breakfast was particularly good and massive! Pool was lovely (maybe a little dated) with loads of birds, chipmunks and monkeys around. Location is a little away from everything and the last part of the entrance is up a very steep hill, but we had a scooter and enjoyed staying a little further out, it was very peaceful and only about 5-10 minutes drive into unawatuna.

United KingdomNothing! It was wonderful!
The room was amazingly spacious and the decor was so well considered and stylish. The view was beautiful over the jungle, especially in the mornings and the (shy) monkey visitors were a real treat. The Sri Lankan breakfast was absolutely delicious! We didn't make it to the pool but the view of it from our balcony looked lovely! The hotel is located up a hill but tuk tuks have no problem accessing. The staff were great and we thought the location was perfect, can walk to the beach, bars and restaurants easily Great value for money.

United KingdomThe balcony view on our booking was not the view that we got and when we tried to explain this to one of the staff he didn’t say much and wouldn’t look into it. There were a few times where we asked for things from reception and which they forgot about. Also be careful as the hotel adds an extra 10% to your overall bill as a ‘service charge’ including the room price. The overall price they charge is not the price highlighted on booking.com!! The hotel is lovely but these few things stopped our stay from being perfect
The room was really nice, really big cool and comfortable. The pool area is lovely and catches the sun until mid afternoon. This is a lovely hotel

United KingdomNothing in particular although the mozzies were a tad lively, but you are in a tropical location so to be expected.
Lovely secluded setting in the forest only 15 minutes walking from the beach but a million miles apart! Our room was spacious, with a large bathroom housing a very unusual aquarium, guess its a quirky distraction! Pool is lovely and usually empty. Staff very attentive and food is freshly cooked.

The property is very nice and located in a quiet and nature surrounded area. We loved the terrace and a garden. We’ve spent the most time there. The room facilities was ok, I was missing soap and other toiletries, also additional toilet paper. We’ve had a breakfast included into the room charge and it was great. You have to pre-order day before. The staff goes extra mile and they all we’re very nice and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and to feel real Sri Lanka.

United KingdomThere needs to be a mirror in the bedroom as there was only one was in the bathroom. The bathroom floor did get a bit slippery as we had a lot of rain. Breakfast was okay but could be improved with fruit being offered everyday. The swimming pool gets in the shade quite early so some of the trees could do with being cutback and there were lots of mosquitoes
This property is a little gem it’s so quiet and relaxing we had room 115 which was deluxe room it was a villa away from main hotel so was really quiet. The bathroom is outside which was a novelty. You can get a TUK TUK from the hotel which is cheaper and more convenient than any others we found they even took us into Galle. There are black faced monkeys at the property which we loved. The staff were really helpful even with a bit of a language barrier.

Breakfast was very tasty, the staff are all lovely and helpful. The hotel is up a fairly steep hill, we would usually walk down it and find a tuk tuk and sometimes walk up it if a tuk tuk couldn't take us up. Very quiet location not too far from the main streets of Unawatuna
