Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

TurkeyWe've been to many 5-star hotels all around the world, and surprisingly received the best hospotality service in this Hotel during our 2 night stay. It's a hidden gem !!! The view is epic from infinity pool. The food is Michelin level perfect. They light up dome fire while you dine outdoors (evenings might be little chill) there are 2 roms with fire place & ready to be fired up upon your request. They even put hot water bags into your bed during evening turn-down service, who expects such thing in the middle of Haputale :) Definetely will come back

Hong KongThe room sound-proofing could be considered to improve as the hallway sounds were very clear. However the rooms themselves are amazing and a great view of the property.
The view and area that the property is on is breathtaking. The service was attentive and incredibly helpful and friendly. The food was wonderful and the staff took great care with facilitating our dietary restrictions.

NorwayNothing, everything was perfect.
This was my second stay at Thotalagala, and it was just as perfect as the first time! The bungalow is beautiful and the service beyond compare. Small and intimate, with beautiful rooms for relaxation and a fireplace room perfect for socialising with other guests. Coming into our room at night was a pleasure, with tea and hot water bottles waiting. The staff were so attentive, giving us a slightly better room and packing us a lunch when we left. We are definetly coming back!

Where do we begin? From the moment we stepped through the door we were knew this was going to be a highlight of our holiday. The hotel arranged a free pickup from Haputale train station and greeted us with a hot towel and a welcome drink. The location and view are breathtaking, the food is amazing and plentiful, and the cocktails were some of the best we’ve had. The rooms are beautiful with such attention to detail. We won’t spoil some of the wonderful touches that you will experience during your stay, but you will not be disappointed. The main reason why this place is so special is thanks to the wonderful team of people who work here. Exceptionally attentive in an understated kind of way. In a country where we have experienced nothing but great service and genuine hospitality this place really takes it to the next level thanks to everyone we met during our stay. We were made to feel like this was our home from home and loved it so much we extended our stay by one day. The ride up to Lipton’s seat is a must and we recommend walking part way back to enjoy the serene atmosphere of walking through the tea bushes and the tea pickers. Also, be sure to walk around the hotel property. If you are really lucky you might be joined for breakfast by the inquisitive monkeys. Sure, it’s not going to be the cheapest place you stay, but in our opinion it’s worth every penny. If you are looking for a little piece of heaven in Sri Lanka you’ve just found it! Definitely our favourite hotel of our holiday.

AustriaThe service was one of the best we’ve ever experienced. Everyone was extremely attentive and took the utmost care of us. The food is another big topic: it was exceptionally good, so I would highly recommend having lunch and dinner, even when it’s not included in the fare. Lastly, the location and the view were simply stunning. From the hotel itself you can explore the tea plantations without any other tourists (unlike in other tourist hotspots). Moreover, some of the hotel employees may join you on hike and show you some nice trails.

FinlandEverything was perfect. This is the best hotel we have ever been to and I actually didn’t want to leave. We stayed for two nights in a Suite. The weather was really nice, the views were breathtaking. The hotel had the best staff I have ever met. It is a seven star hotel in my opinion. We had their lunch and dinner bott twice and the food was some of the best we’ve had. Lunch was $20/person and dinner was $25/person. Very good price, there was a LOT of food. Different menu every time and options! The pool was lovely also. There is a couple of nice sights you can also visit.

This was one of the most special parts of our holiday. The property is an old hunting lodge set at an altitude of around 1500m in a beautiful garden. The staff are all excellent and really go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. There were so many little touches that really make you feel looked after. Will reccomend this place to anyone who wants to visit Sri Lanka. Genuine Hospitality at its finest. A****

FranceEverything ! The place is amazing. It is charged with history and beautiful. You will find books and board games everywhere to enjoy by the fireplace when the sun goes down. The gardens are a dream. There are very well curated and you will be able to observe the birds nesting in the trees. And the view ! There is no words to describe it. It is breathtaking. Finally, what we enjoyed the most was the service. We are used to travel in luxury hotels and the staff of Thotalagala have nothing to envy to the most experienced staff. The food was really good and every team member was very kind and thoughtful. They gave us a free upgrade, offered us so many little attentions that I can mention everything in this comment. They are knowledgeable and flexible, they care for every little details, they are passionate about hospitality and genuinely caring about people. And at the end, that is the thing that matters. They are the one making this place feels like home and we hope to be able to visit them again.

United KingdomWe loved every minute of our stay at Thotalagala! All of the staff were truly exceptional - extremely welcoming, thoughtful & proactive. As soon as we walked down to the pool towels were produced & water was brought to our sun loungers. The food & drinks were also amazing, special shout outs for the welcome hot chocolate, afternoon tea & the most delicious Sri Lankan breakfast of our stay. The room was extremely comfortable and the villa is absolutely beautiful. The shower was fantastic. We loved the pool - it looked stunning & was lovely to swim in. Beautiful sitting rooms with fires in the evenings where we enjoyed playing games and reading. Decor was incredibly stylish and in keeping with the theme of the former tea plantation bungalow. helpfully arranged a tuk tuk to go up to Lipton seat and the tea factory - included in your stay. Picturesque local walks through tea plantations. Arrive hungry, leave satiated. A blissful, relaxing idyll in which to recuperate.
