How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Everything was ok.
I liked friendly approach of the staff. Room was spacious with a very good A/C. I was allowed to stay till 4 pm.

Beautiful and quiet location. Lovely hosts, family. The house and spacious rooms are very inviting. Everywhere glassdoors towards the garden. Bicycle available if needed. Breakfast, local, is a must have.

Everything was fine!
Lovely place with amazing friendly family who were a warm welcome for us to Sri Lanka. They have bikes to rent, ordered food, helped us organise a massage and with mobile cards.

Whenever transiting thru Colombo, I prefer staying here. The facilities are of fantastic value, but mostly, I love the hosts! Feels like home!

Amazing and welcoming family, perfect when you arrive in the country. Super helpful. Breakfast was good. The room was clean and with hot water. They let us use bicycles too. We would stay again.

Everything! The location, the peaceful and lovely garden they have. The food is amazing! And the family who runs the business are just beyond friendly, helpful, welcoming and supportive. I spent 2 days when arriving and will be one more night before I leave. Highly recommend. :)

The breakfast was wonderful. The best thing about the villa was the hosts. They came out to welcome us very late at night. We mentioned in passing that it was our daughter’s birthday the following day and they were so kind and considerate that they bought us a little cake for breakfast decorated with some flowers from the garden. This gesture was just so kind it blew us away.

This homestay was lovely, great value for money and a very comfy room. The owner let us stay around the house after check out while waiting for our flight which was greatly appreciated!

Sharmila and her husband are exeptional hosts. They go really out of their way to make you feel at home. Shampath arranged our licence for the tuktuk and Sharmila is an unbelievable source for any questions you have, travelling in Sri Lanka. We highly recommend Villa Trapobane for your first stop when you come into the country. It is in a safe neigbourhood and the hosts make sure you feel at home. The house is a big beautiful Villa with a nice garden. There are bikes and also a parking place. We also had a very delicious breakfast with them. We absolutly loved it there. Don`t think twice and stay nearer to Negombo center. Villa Trapobane is much quieter and nicer.

Overall perfect first 2 nights on the island
+ Local breakfast was great (local fruits and curries, bakery and eggs from own chickens which move freely on the property) + host was very helping and friendly / openhearted + flexibile and uncomplicated (late check in and breakfast) + overall very relaxed

The facilities, and furniture are old. The room is directly above the kitchen with little sound proofing. The hot water was very limited.
It was great for a one night stay. The hosts were extremely kind. For the price you probably can't get much better. The breakfast was very good, but a smaller portion than I've received at other Homestays.

There isn't much near the house. Better to eat dinner at home - if it's available - or take a driver at night to reach the city center.
Family is super friendly and helpful. The garden and home-made breakfast were amazing. Room is essential but perfectly fine for 1 or 2 nights. Very good value for money!

First of all: the hosts were super nice, talking about local food and culture and giving a lot of helpful recommendations for our trip. The rooms were big and clean. Breakfast was very delicious! Would definetly visit again!
