Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The property was perfect. In a quiet area between trees and jungle. Our host was super friendly and helpful. She recommended us what to do. The guide she knows is definitely one of the best we had in Sri Lanka. Really helpful and interesting. Moreover it brought us to a really nice lunch place.

AustraliaIt was a wonderful opportunity to see a giant squirrel close up. We took some fantastic photos. The room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. It was close to the sacred city. I learned to cook seven delicious Sri Lankan dishes during the cooking class. Highly recommended. .

My stay at Yaluwa was absolutely perfect! First and foremost, the female owner is so incredibly friendly and caring! She also gives cooking classes and although I wasn't able to attend (I arrived late), i was on time to enjoy the food and it was amazing! The same goes for the breakfast, it was delicious! The room is almost an entire apartment, with 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and a separate large living room. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning works perfectly! The surroundings are beautiful, you can see giant squirrels in the trees nearby! On my second day, the owner also arranged a tour to several beautiful places around Mihintale and a recommended restaurant at the end, which was amazing! There are quite a few howling dogs in the neighbourhood, and this is quite common everywhere. I wasn't really bothered by the noise!

United StatesYaluwa Tourist Rest and Cookery is just about the sweetest place on earth to relax. It is a small and friendly family run establishment with just a few rooms located in a lush garden setting. My room was palacial with a comfortable king bed, mini refrigerator, bottled drinking water and stylish bathroom. Everything was clean and fresh, including the AC. They have a lovely garden nook where I was treated to complete and tasty breakfasts. The place is run by an adorable couple, Supun and Chaya, who were just the best! They helped me figure out what to do and how to do it in the 3 days I spent in Anuradhapura. For a small fee I rented a bicycle from Supun and Chaya and took a leisurely ride around the countryside. Highly recommended!! I also took Chaya’s cookery class which was a ton of fun. You will learn to make 7 Sri Lankan dishes using ingredients that are readily available outside of Sri Lanka. Take notes! And be prepared for a filling meal afterwards, so book in the afternoon and come hungry. Of note: you do not need to stay at Yaluwa to take the cookery class. Just contact Chaya to set up a time. Like many small hotels and home stays in Anuradhapura, Yaluwa Tourist Rest and Cookery is located a few km out from the center of town on a small, quiet road. I used a bicycle one day and a tuk tuk the next to visit various ruins and get around town. Yaluwa will arrange a tuk tuk for you if you want to explore the ruins that way. The hospitality and kindness at Yaluwa Tourist Rest and Cookery was outstanding. A fantastic value that I highly recommend!

United KingdomWe liked everything.
The host Chaya is totally fantastic. You will not meet a kinder or more helpful person. We had a cooking lesson which was really great and then enjoyed the food. The room was spacious with a separate seating area. Very comfortable bed. Really nice home cooked food with a different breakfast every day. One evening we had the best homemade chicken Biriyani I have ever had! Lovely garden location. Bikes are available to rent to get to the ancient cities. Staying at Yaluwa Tourist rest really was one of the highlights of our 4 weeks in Sri Lanka

United StatesNot anything the proprietors can do about it, but beware of mosquitoes especially when having dinner outside!
The owners were very kind and helpful, accommodating our dietary needs and making sure we had everything we needed. We were greeted with delicious wood apple juice. Food was plentiful and well prepared. Very quiet at night. A good base for exploring Anuradhapura.

NetherlandsIt’s a bit outside the city, but that is actually what I liked about it. You don’t hear the noise of the city.
I had a great stay! Supun and his wife made me feel at home in their homestay. Nice spacious room with a refrigerator. I liked his garden and the best thing was the hut near my room. This is the place where you get breakfast and dinner, it’s really cute. With a nice view on the garden. I liked that Supun could show me Mihintale and the next day he arranged a great day-excursion for Anuradhapura. Oh and for the Dutchies… he also has a bike!

SpainOne of the best guesthouses we’ve ever stayed in! A peaceful, green oasis just outside the main area of Anuradhapura (10 min to the ancient city). Very comfortable, super clean bungalow with a/c, a comfy bed, a nice patio on the garden. The best part was the food! Delicious breakfasts and suppers, including a cooking class followed by a feast with 6 delicious Sri Lankan dishes. The owner was extremely helpful, connecting us with tuktuk drivers we could trust and basically treating us like honoured guests. All the comforts of a hotel, but none of the boring anonymity or overpriced food. Come stay here!!!

United StatesNothing. The rooms, surroundings and staff exceeded all our expectations. This place is a real gem that we recommend heartily without any hesitation.
Mrs. Ranasinghe opened her beautiful home to us with extraordinary grace and kindness, attentive to small details that made the stay especially memorable. Our rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable, complete with flowers on the stack of towels she provided. When she learned that my sister can't drink caffeine she went into her garden to prepare traditional herbal teas -- the first day she gave her baeli flower tea, with a couple of the fresh flowers placed on the saucer so she could know what she was drinking; the second day it was iramusu tea, with iramusu leaves decorating the saucer. We had a full agenda meeting my own friends so could not take advantage of all the hospitality she offered, including arranging taxis, bus or train station pick-ups, bicycles to ride around the sacred sites, etc. We came back late both nights of our stay and she waited up to greet us, provide fresh bottles of water, and plan the next day's breakfast. My sister and brother-in-law did a cookery class with her one morning and learned to make string hoppers, pol sambol, dhal curry and fish curry. We were treated to a seemingly endless array of fresh fruits and juices, and she happily led an impromptu tour of her spectacular garden. My sister and brother-in-law are birders and some of their best sightings occurred right there. We just couldn't have asked for a better stay...and very reasonably priced, too!
