Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwedenThe hotel could have allowed a check in at 1:15 pm.. just 45 mins before the 2 pm check in time
The room was quite spacious, comfortable and clean. Breakfast was good with decent eating options even if you do not eat meat (but eat eggs)

AustraliaThe shower was too small and not enough space for a couple with two suitcases.
Breakfast was really good and had plenty of variety. Location was close to everything in the old town and easy walking distance to the centre. Staff were friendly and helpful.

FinlandThe mini fridge wasn’t exactly cool and presumably the construction site behind the hotel emitted a foul ammonia smell at 5am one morning, and actually woke us up.
The room was big and spacious, but the twin beds were quite narrow. The bathroom was spacious and had a bath & a bidet.

EstoniaIf you're looking for a room with a view, this is not a place for you, the street is rather narrow and even the rooms on higher floors and with balconies don't give anything more to look at than a slice of a cobbled stone street and the spa hotel across the street. The hair dryer in my room was working alright, but seemed rather old and for a moment I thought if it was safe to use it. I also didn't find any stationery to take notes - hotels usually have those, even when it's just a few pages of paper and a pencil.
I chose this hotel because of it's location - about 5 minute walk from the bus station - and because it had rooms with bathtubs available. I loved the excellent soundproofing they had done to the rooms, couldn't hear anyone talking, watching TV or snoring. Both the room and bathroom were spacious and tastefully simple. The amenities in the bathroom included a really good hair conditioner and body lotion. The coffee and tea making facilities in the room were in good working order and equipped with good quality tea selection. The mini bar was also well stocked, although I didn't actually use anything from there. The staff is very helpful and professional, very fluent in English, too. The buffet-style breakfast had everything a frequent traveler has become accustomed to when staying in hotels - hot options like scrambled and boiled eggs, sausages and bacon, pancakes and oatmeal, everything you need to make a sandwich (including a toaster), hot and cold drinks. It also had steamed vegetables and roasted potatoes. I was very pleasantly surprised to find a well stocked salad counter full of fresh vegetables, various dressings and even pickles - I thought I had taken an elevator to Italy :)

RussiaWe stayed in a designer room on the 5th floor in the new building. Whoever came up with the design has probably never stayed in this room. Everything looks very interesting, but when you enter the room, you risk breaking your head on a huge wooden wheel that takes up the entire space. The room is very large, but most of the space is wasted. There is no cabinet or shelf (we used a wheel as a shelf). The door to the toilet is located opposite the bed, there is 10 cm between the door and the bed. Anyone who sleeps in a bed against the wall can break their head on the beam.
The hotel is ideally located: 12 minutes to the train station, 8 minutes to the bus station, 5-10 minutes to museums, cafes and attractions. The hotel staff is polite and caring. The rooms are clean. Breakfast is quite sufficient.

IrelandBreakfast was poor - eggs slightly undercooked, coffee cups were too small for automatic machine and was challenging to reach a table without spilling it. Dust in the room should be cleaned to better standard, places like tv and top of the bed are easily reachable, not saying about any higher places. Just an additional comment, as a hospitality trained person, rooms should be checked for hair in the bathroom and dust after every cleaning, that can improve customer satisfaction even more. Rooms were cold and heating couldnt hieat up the room. Only leaving constructive critisism as believe this lovely place could do better. Overall we enjoyeed our stay and think it was great value for money.

United KingdomA lot of other reviews complain about the breakfast. This could largely be resolved by employing more staff, to keep the buffet topped up. Yes it could be better.
The Rixwell Old Riga Palace Hotel is in a good location. Walking distance of both the train and long distance bus stations. Also being on the edge of the old town, its location couldn't be better. The hotel claims a four star rating, although it was probably awarded that a few years back. The furniture and fittings are all looking a bit old, chipped and tired. Not a problem for me as it seems thi is reflected in the price . Making it quite affordable.. If you are looking for four star quality and prepared to pay four star prices, look elsewhere.

NorwayNo slippers or wardrobe in the room as written, very tiny walls you can hear everything what the people doing ar talking. Not possible to turn of the ventilation in the bathroom, made extra noise in the room, for this price I believe you can find better hotels. Breakfast fruits not fresh at all. Wouldn't come back.

SlovakiaNot anything that was a fault of the hotel. The restaurant and lobby bar were under construction, so we could not use it, but that was no really an issue as the location is close to many bars/restaurants.
Everything about the hotel was great. I loved the design room and what it provided. Absolutely great location in the old city, all sights are very very close. Would recommend and visit again.

LithuaniaThis is definetly not a 4* hotel! The pillow was super uncomfortable, cheap hard syntetic pillow. There was no shampoo at the hotel, I even offered staff to pay for it, they said that they do not have it. Its supposed to be 4* hotel and you seriously dont have shampoo samples?? The walls are very thin, I could hear the upstairs neighbours walking and talking.
The Location is great, checking process was smooth, very clean, cute and tidy room.

United KingdomThe bar wasn't open during my stay. Staff offered to open it when I asked but I would have liked it to be open.
Great location. Set on the road just behind the river and on the edge of the Old Town. A few minuets walk along the river to the Museum of Occupation and House of the Blackheads. The Old Town is walk-able from the Hotel. It felt safe and easy. Room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was local hot foods, cold meats, cheeses, pastries, fruits, and cereals. Hot drinks and juice. Fairly basic but plentiful. Staff were friendly. Spoke perfect English and happy to help with any queries or requests. I was able to store my luggage after check out for the day.
