How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The hotel has a very nice pool and terrace, and is located near the dunes, thus has a very nice view on them. We enjoyed the clean room and the staff, especially Hassan was really nice and helpful with our requests

Exceptional stay at Riad Akabar Merzouga! From the warm hospitality to the stunning desert views, every moment was magical. The rooms were cozy, the food was delicious, and the camel ride into the dunes was unforgettable. Highly recommend for an authentic desert experience

We've been at the Riad Akabar for only one afternoon and one night, yet the staying was great. Our room was very spacious and clean, while the staff has been always nice and caring; Hassan (the owner) in particolar enjoyed us after dinner for a little talk. Also the position is beautiful, as the Sahara dunes are only a few minutes away and is possibile to watch the sunset from there for a breathtaking view. In the end, definitely a recommended experience!

Riad Akabar is a beautiful Moroccan hotel (riad) that offers a breathtaking view of the desert. The luxury rooms are spacious and well-furnished, providing a comfortable and relaxing stay. The friendly staff is always ready to help and make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The huge outdoor space with a huge swimming pool is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful weather. We had a very pleasant stay. Very luxurious room, very good food but especially the service and friendliness of the staff will stay with us for a long time!! We forgot our mobile phone adapter in the previous hotel...it was taken care of. Even our wine was arranged 😉 All our compliments to ismael, Moha and the rest of the staff!

Absolutely recommended as accommodation in Merzogua. Everything impeccable, large and clean room, perfect bed, same bathroom and, in our case, perfect orientation... We could see the sunrise over the desert from our window. I would repeat when I returned.

Nice new riad with helpful and friendly staff. Dinner was good, the guy serving us brought some water but said, it's good desert wine, smiling abundantly haha. The pool was cold but very refreshing. Would definitely recommend this place.

Very nice riad with high quality service! And his team care deeply about our satisfaction! Great place, and on top of that there is the amazing swimming pool!! We will definitely come back to it whenever the opportunity allows, as we spent a very wonderful vacation....

The best choice to enjoy the desert. Magnificent views of the dunes and just by crossing the road you can get lost in them. Large terrace on the deck and pool area to relax and cool off after days in the desert. Large rooms. Well-kept, clean, cozy accommodation, with attentive, friendly staff who always care to know if you are comfortable and are always willing to help you. An exceptional place. We stayed here after our night at a desert camp. Our stay was wonderful! The riad was beautiful and impeccably clean. The staff incredibly friendly and helpful. I was stunned to see how beautiful and unique our room was. I loved it so much I wish I had stayed an extra night.

Stayed for one night at this Riad , it's in amazing locations just at the edge of sand dunes. The stuff is welcoming and friendly. It's really recommended for anyone who want to spend night in Merzouga hotel instead of desert. They also offer overnight at desert camp and camel ride.

We called just about 1.5 hours before curfew rushing over from a long drive. They happily accepted to accommodate us and have a full 5 course dinner prepared. We couldn’t be more grateful! The room was very charming, new, and clean. As was the property in it’s entirety. The food was absolutely wonderful, and more over the service was incredible. A special thank you to Hussein working in the restaurant who made our stay exceptional!
