How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The owners of the accommodation were very friendly and accommodating. We didn't realise that we had missed check-in on Friday evening but they stayed up and welcomed us. Beautiful views over the city and the mountains from the terrace where we had our breakfast. The room was clean and comfortable and had lovely artwork. The location was ideal as it was right in the Medina but not far from the Square or Spanish Mosque. We definitely recommend a visit to Chefchaouen!

We sadly happened to have very bad weather throughout our whole stay in Chefchaouen, so we spent a lot of time in Dar Besmellah. The hosts were incredibly accommodating by proving breakfast, tea & homemade traditional soup as well as recommendations for restaurants & places to visit.

Staying at Der Besmellah was a nice experience for us. The employees were very helpful and friendly. They answered every question we asked sincerely. It had a great terrace view. It was very enjoyable to sit there and eat something. thanks for everything.

Great location, right in the centre of the medina. Friendly and helpful staff. The room was super nice. The view from the terrace was beautiful.

Only disturbing was a loud backstreet of the house very close to your ear inside that specific room (ground floor). I believe all the other rooms were not that acoustically exposed. - and it was around New Years Eve.
It was a great hostel with a nice and friendly vibe great by the host Ismael - a beautiful view from the roof top onto the town of Chefchouan - straight inside the medina.

All good. Just one warning about the taylor shop next door. It's a complete rip off. I bought three jumpers and all literally fell apart within 24 hours 😬 funny, if it wasn't expensive. Doesn't concern the hostel though, but really watch out what you buy in that taylor shop.
Very good hostel with nice service, clean and a little art shop inside. Nothing to complain.

There is no heating in the house and it gets quite cold at nights. We were often running out of toilet paper and the shower didn't have enough pressure until adjusted.
The hosts were super nice. We booked a room with one double bed and two single beds for a family, the hosts offered changing it to two separate rooms in upper floors with less noise free of charge. We were even allowed to use the kitchen (which is usually not part). The terrace is beautiful, I bet that in summer days it must be blessing.

The younger host had an altercation with one of the other vendors. It was a difficult situation for us because of the language differences. We did not understand the reason for the encounter. We managed to move past the commotion.
There was no breakfast. The location was great. It was in the center of markets. Lots of steps. I recommend limited luggage.

The hotel is nice and clean. The staff is very kind and welcoming. Great location. There's a very nice terrace that offers a great view over the medina. Great value for money.

There was no hot water in the shower... but it was refreshing as the weather was very hot!
Very welcoming and helpful staff. Very clean hotel well located in the medina. Traditional architecture and cute decoration. Good value for money. Highly recommended.

Difficult to get to with a bicycle
