Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesFacilities need a bit of TLC to bring it up to the level I would expect at the price range.
Staff were very friendly and it's a good central location. The breakfast was good and the access to the spa at a nearby hotel was nice. Visiting the Matisse room if it's unoccupied is a treat. My stay was quiet - no noise issues.

United KingdomDifficult to access a plug to charge a mobile phone. Mattress a little on the firm side but I slept well nonetheless
The hotel is lovely. This is my 3rd or 4th time staying there. It’s in a great position for walking to the Kasbah and medina, and opposite the English church, which is definitely worth a visit. Great views from the terrace. Mohammed showed us the room where Matisse stayed in 1912 and painted his famous picture of the English Church through the window. It still has the original telephone, furniture and light fittings.

United KingdomZero soundproofing so Ramadan calls woke us extremely early every morning and noise from other guests was irritating. The hotel is also poorly maintained. There was a door in the corridor with a broken lock that banged open and shut all night in the storms, meaning we couldn’t get any sleep for two nights before they fixed it. We had to fight to get an upgrade as compensation for this. We were eventually given the upgrade, but this would never have been offered voluntarily as the staff have no conception of customer service. Most of the staff in this hotel and at El Minzah made it clear they considered our presence a burden. The front desk cheekily tried to rip us off at every opportunity by offering the hotel’s driver at twice the cost of a normal taxi and insisting we couldn’t get a better deal at the taxi rank. The hotel also has a policy to charge for all water apart from the first bottle (bearing in mind the tap water is not safe to drink). We complained and the manager agreed to give us one bottle for free every day. The ethos of the hotel is clearly profit above all else. They take their five-star rating as an excuse to charge extra money without feeling any responsibility to provide a greater level of service. It is not worth the price - more like a three-star hotel.
Central location good for exploring the city. Nice outdoor pool and access to spa at the neighbouring El Minzah Hotel. Gestine was very helpful in getting us taxis at a reasonable price from the rank right outside the hotel. Fresh pancakes at breakfast were good.

United KingdomBreakfast was uninspiring and I know it has to cater for a large number of people but the coffee was from a machine. Far better coffee with breakfast at the Fuentes or local cafes.
Beautiful old building with an unsurpassed view from the terrace. Set in small but nice gardens and the staff were very pleasant.

United KingdomThe weather was bad and we wanted to use the facilities advertised and they were closed for a month. Therefore our plans were somewhat altered by this.
I was very disappointed that the indoor swimming pool was closed and we were not informed prior to our visit.

United StatesThe shower had a broken hose, but upon being made aware of that, they immediately fixed it, so it turned out not to be a problem at all, just a minor inconvenience that lasted only a matter of minutes.
The location was great and the property was elegant with an old world charm. The staff was fabulous and really helped us find things to do and how to handle a cancelled ferry! They were lovely and very responsive.

United KingdomNo way this would meet the criteria of a 5-star hotel: facilities are very outdated and the hotel needs renovating, the SPA is in another hotel 7 minutes walking, breakfast consisted of rather low quality products. Night receptionist suggested one price for a taxi to the port, his colleague in the morning got us a taxi for double the price and the taxi driver got into the reception to pay his commission right in front of us (very unprofessional).

United KingdomSmoking in the Bar which serves food!.....we had to move just before ordering our food as a 'chain smoker' started smoking hard on the next table!...dreadful and shocking ...If we were running this otherwise lovely bar with its music etc smoking would certainly NOT be allowed.
