Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaOnly small things like a little extra cleaning around the sink and attention to a cowhide rug that could cause tripping. The tap water does smell a little which can't be helped.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. The room was spacious, comfortable, bright and inviting. The terrace had nice views and ambience to enjoy breakfast with other guests.

FranceExcellent location in the Medina, appartements and rooms have a cozy feeling and wonderful furnishing. Having a full floor of the riad feels home and exotic at the same time. The view from the rooftop terrace is amazing and a lolvely breakfast served while looking at the see is a great start of a day. The hosts are welcoming, kind and helpful. We had a more than lovely stay there and we recommend it with our eyes closed.

United KingdomThe day bed in one of the bedroom is missing slats which makes it feel as though it’s about to break. Also the smell of the sewers outside the front door is overwhelming.
I loved how central it was to the medina with great food places nearby. The apartment we stayed in had two bedrooms with a huge bathroom and bath tub. The rooms were tastefully decorated and made it feel so rustic. The view from the terrace is spectacular even if you do have to climb a huge number of steep steps to get there. Breakfast on the first day was great, the next day it was toasted croissants and pain au choclat and on the day of our departure we asked for an early breakfast which was tea and bread rolls.

CanadaI suggest that guests consider ear plugs to cope with the early morning calls of the sea gulls in the area.
We loved the location and our family suite. The furnishings were gorgeous and the rooms all supplied with heaters for the cold nights. The rooftop terrace was stunning.

SpainI think the property would not be suitable for people with mobility limitations as there are a lot of narrow and somewhat uneven stairs to climb (but which also add to the charm). It was a bit noisy, a nearby disco(?) was playing music until very late, then the muezzin in the nearby mosque at 5 am and then the seagulls... The courtyard is open to the elements (also adding to the charm).
Armine came to meet us in the car park to guide us to the house. Very friendly and helpful. We had a whole floor for ourselves, one huge room with a fireplace armchairs and old furniture. Lovely. The other room was fine and both these and the kitchen and bathroom opened out onto the balcony looking down into the courtyard. Breakfast on the terrace was great, with views out to the castle, port and beach. The location is excellent and Essaouira is lovely.

SlovakiaThe only reason why this accommodation doesn’t get a perfect 10 is the call to prayer at 5:30am, which is very clearly and disturbingly heard in the morning.
Amin was very friendly, responsive and helpful. For example he personally took us to local hamam. Thank you once again. The apartment is stylishly appointed. Great filter coffee for breakfast, we suggest branching into healthy options (like porridge, muesli…) and less wheat and bread.

IrelandIt was hard to enjoy the private rooftop as it was so incredibly windy up there but that wasn't the property's fault. Shower room was very small for a tall person. It had a guesthouse feel to it as opposed to a riad/hotel.
Location was super. Staff were very nice. The studio was lovely and we didn't mind the climb up the stairs. Breakfast was delicious 😋

FranceThere's a mosque right next to the riad - thus expect to be woken up by the call for prayer around 4.45am. Good workout as there are lots of stairs to get to the top!
Location location location. Near the souks, walking distance to the sqala. Room was cosy and decorated with nice quirky touches. Awesome private balcony with lounging chair with views on the port. The concierge kept our suitcases after checkout which was really appreciated.

United KingdomNothing - we lived it all but for others - the shower room is a little awkward with a very low ceiling halfway up a staircase.
Located right in the centre of Essaouira with absolutely stunning views from the roof terraces. Very comfortable room with everything you need, we stayed at the top in the Josephine room - 65 steps up a winding staircase - and a private roof terrace accessed up a spiral staircase within the room. Tremendous views and the staff are lovely, kind and helpful.

PortugalThe only thing which is less nice but I’m not sure something can be done about that: the pluming system most have some problems (maybe aged; the proximity to the sea doesn’t help also) and there is a smell in the toilets that get’s through the house that is not nice. Fortunately, there are loads of windows and the fresh air helps.
The house is super charming!! We only stayed 1 night but felt like staying longer; the apartments are fully equipped to cook and it would have been lovely to buy some fresh food in the local market and cook it. Beds are very comfortable and all is super clean. The terrace is also a lovely place. Amine, the house manager, is kind and helpful. The location is just great!! If we go back to Essaouira, we’ll stay there again!

FinlandThe sound proofing is non-existing in some of the suites due to the shape of the riad. This meant that we could hear everything that happened in the lobby and in the suite above and they could hear our kids making noises. The building is very old and the cleanliness could be improved. The communal kitchen should be cleaned better. The riad is very humid and there is an unpleasant odor. Our standards are high due to us having two small kids. The accomodation is better suited for adults only.
The location and the size of the rooms were great. We stayed at the Roxalane suite on the second floor with two kids. The suite was beautifully decorated and the service was friendly. It was a very special riad.

United KingdomThe only downsides to the property came from the fact that the windows are quite thin so we could hear other people on the terrace, the band playing live music from a few rooftops down the street, and seagulls/calls to morning prayers very loudly with very little soundproofing. The music stops by 11 and having an eye mask and ear plugs really helped us sleep comfortably though. As it’s a seaside town, there’s not much you can do about it, but there is an occasional drainage/pipes smell that creeps into the property. The shower room also has a very low ceiling so we couldn’t quite stand in it upright, but you get used to these simple things very quickly and the water pressure and heat were all excellent.
Really enjoyed our stay at Riad de La Mer. The location is right in the heart of the Madina and a charming location. Amine is a FANTASTIC host and is there to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Breakfast on the terrace every morning was generous and a great setting to start the day. We also had the top floor room with a private terrace. Both our terrace and the one for breakfast are great spots to relax and view the sea and city from one of the highest terraces in sight. The room was charming and was cleaned and serviced daily which always made it easy to stay in. Zine was easy to communicate with prior to arrival as well. Thank you for a wonderful overall stay. It really felt like we were guests in someone’s home.
