Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Sadly our stay here is over. Superlatives cannot do it justice. It feels like home and family if home were perched thrillingly above the Atlantic waves. Essaouira is lovely and it is interesting to explore but sitting in our room watching the ocean was the best. The bed, linen and towels, robes, furnishings are outstanding. The room is more than tastefully decorated, there is an inspired talent here. The staff are commiserate with the property, that is welcoming, friendly, helpful, genuine. I regret planning our Morocco visit for anywhere other than here.

United KingdomCONSIDERATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT 1. Located in street with low roof ceiling and little/ no light. One has to be extra careful walking down the street in low light as I banged my head against the ceiling in the street. More lighting required. 2. The Riad has interconnecting building with no sign posting for the terrace, exit and rooms. I got lost a few times finding my way to the room. This can be a particular risk in case of a fire in the building as the fire exits aren’t marked either. 3. The floor, made of tiles, can’t be slippery once wet. 4. I could not find any additional sockets in the room to plug my phone charger in. I had to take a side table lamp off to find a socket. 5. I could not find air conditioning/ heating in the room. At the time of my visit the weather was perfect and the room temperature at its best. However I wonder if that’s true all through the year? 6. No intercom to speak to reception, tea/ coffee making facilities or a chiller for keeping drinks chilled. 7. Given most of the population of Morroco is Muslim and number of travellers from the surrounding countries are likely to be the same, there are no Muslim showers or bidets the toilet. This can easily be resolved by changing the toilet seats with those that come with in-built bidets. 8. Breakfast: Limited variety. I am not sure if it would satisfy the needs of those looking for Kosher food.
STRENGTHS: 1. LOCATION: Ideal; right on the seashore overseeing the beach and and rocks. 2. STAFF: Very helpful and courteous receptionist and the rest of the staff. 3. ROOM: Reasonably sized rooms 4. BEDROOM: Extra large bed with ultra comfortable mattress and pillows. Good luggage storage space. Very well decorated with ambient lighting from traditionally styled lamps. Two comfy sofa seaters with a coffee table. A dressing table and chair which can be doubled as a writing desk. Safety locker provided. 5. BATHROOM: Reasonable size with bath tub and shower. Hair dryer and amenities. All first class 6. BREAKFAST: High quality stuff with the taste of home cooked food. Eggs made to order. Two kinds of breads. Croissants. Butter with three types of jams and marmalade. Turkey and cheese Salami. Freshly squeezed Orange juice. Yogurt. Hot Tea and traditional Moroccan pan fried bread. The breakfast can be tailored to suit Vegans/ Vegetarians. Over all very good

United KingdomUnfortunately we had to move rooms twice. Firstly, because there was an electrical noise from a fuse box in the cupboard. This wasn't an issue until the manager informed me 'the owner is aware of this'. I was surprised that we were put in a room with a known, un-resolved issue. Our second move was slightly more troubling. One evening at approximately 8PM, we heard a cracking noise from the ground. We left the room and informed the night porter. With the night porter we inspected the room and found large cracks and bulging of the tiled floor. This was obviously very troubling. The manager offered us a suite, which we gladly accepted. When moving our belongings into the suite, the night porter informed us that 'this room is worth twice what you have paid' which was in very poor taste. Ufortunatley from this point on, we were largely ignored. For the following 4 days, no one apologised or asked us how we were. When the owner returned over the weekend, he walked past us at breakfast and made not attempt to check in. We almost felt he was giving us the cold shoulder. This incident, and the staff's reaction, left a really poor taste in our mouths and we will not be returning.
Great view from the rooftop.
