Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIf you were going on holiday to spend time by the outdoor pool, this isn't the holiday for you. The pool is owned by a separate company and they don't want hotel guests to use the pool. The hotel reception staff are aware of the issue and don't want to get involved which is very disappointing. Obviously when you book your stay there are lots of pretty pictures of the hotel pool on the website, but it is hard to get access to the pool, especially on a sunny day. The hotel will tell you if you book at the hotel reception the day before you want to use the pool all will be fine, but the staff that manage the pool ignore the hotel bookings and are only interested in non-hotel residents who pay up to 40 Euros per day to have a sun lounger by the pool. If you are a hotel guest you are either turned away because the pool area is fully reserved, or they put you out the back by the air con units and dustbins. The so called reserved sun loungers are often never used, they are just held back in case non-hotel residents want to book them during the day. Rubbish would be the best way to describe it!
The hotel was very nice and our room was a good size with a beautiful view of Valletta. The hotel staff were lovely and the breakfast was fabulous.

SlovakiaThere were some things I would improve such as drinking water in the spa area also some relaxing music, I think it’s a must. Also there is a little blue movement sensor on the ceiling in the room, I found it very annoying especially at night. There was a bad smell from the drain in the bathroom.
I really enjoyed the location, the food was excellent and stuff very friendly and helpful. Also a huge plus is a bath and shower in the bathroom.

Germany1) The „Blue light“ topic ! ( you will also find it in some other reviews- we were aware before booking): there is a huge blue and irregular blinking light on the ceiling in the bedroom. We think it is a Motion detector to inform the cleaning personnel if there is sbd in the Room. However it is bright and blinks all night and there is no way to cover it To be honest : it was annoying. And it is the Main reason I will give a 9 instead of a 10 However - I would again Book Barcelo over any other Hotel on Malta again because all the positive Aspects do outweigh it Two Minor things : 2) the hair dryer is a cheap model which is Not typical for 5star but More for cheap hotels and it is fixed in a cupboard in the best Room ( Not the bath) which is uncomfortable. Just bring your own one und this is of importance for you 3) there was a Fire Alarm early Sunday Morning (Wrong alarm) that woke us up - Loud as hell and Gave us a shock. Then it suddenly stopped and left us with a questionmark. Should we go out? What Happend? The point: no one informed us proactively I had to search the number of the reception in this Stressful Situation half-asleep because it was not on the phone ( Change that !!!) only on a Info brochure ( Not a Good Place in an emergency or sth that Feels like that) Again : In the Overall Context Barcelo is an outstanding Choice and i will recommend it to my Friends
The Location is a clear 10! There is no Place with a comparable view in whole Malta, like the view you will have from Barcelo!!! The Pool area with this view on Valettas Skyline is truly amazing and with the relaxed Lounge music and the luxury sunbeds this is the Perfect Place for a sundowner . A hidden but important highlight for us was how easy and comfortable it was to Park our rental car : there is a really huuuuge public garage DIRECTLY Next to Barcelo. It feels like a Hotel Garage because it is so super close and costs only 6€ / Night . It was Perfect for us as a starting Point to discover the island by car : central, no availability issues, save, Big lots for the cars! 100%! There are many good restaurants and bars close by and the ferry & touristic boats are departing only a few meters from the Hotel Everything in the Hotel is new , has an appealing and modern design and is very clean. House keeping Shows up , up to 3 times per day: they do an amazing job. Everyone was Kind and helpful also in the Communication in advance. I really liked the bathroom which was very well Designed and spacious. We had a balcony with Valetta View which was worth the extra Money . The Room was quiet.

United KingdomI have chosen this hotel, as I got attracted to the style, view with balcony, chosen sea view, bath in a room, saunas, spa, indoor and outdoor pools. Hotel itself is very beautiful, lovely friendly staff, clean, spacious rooms and good facilities. Breakfast wasn’t included, the only disappointment I guess. Great location and easy to access to any other cities via bolt or on a ferry.

NetherlandsThe air conditioning system. Apparently there's only one setting for the whole hotel and you cannot change it in you room if you wanted to, which made the night a bit uncomfortable because it was too warm. The staff was however super kind and brought us a fan to keep us cool at night. I hope the AC system can be fixed to allow every room to choose their ideal temparature.
This hotel is in the best location in Sliema. Only about 6 -8 min walk you'll find an amazing strip of nice restaurants, the ferry and hop on hop off busses are right there by the restaurants The view of Valetta is breathtaking. and theres a shopping mall right behind the hotel. It seems to be newly built in sept 2023. The Staff was so welcoming and shared alot for information on what to do during our girls trip. Thank you Jade!

SerbiaOne thing that is easy to miss, which I would like to point out. The drinking water. Malta goes into bucket of places where you buy water. For someone coming from a region with drinking tap water it's easy to forget that you need one to live :). Then, when you see 0.33l bottles being sold at a price of 2 liters of petrol, you get frustrated. This is totally ok for mineral water for instance, but for natural drinking water, it is not. In places like Spain or Greece, there is a silent agreement not to go over certain pricing limit. And you can go to an expensive hotel, but water will still be 0.5E (maybe slightly more these days, but you get my point). This is totally unnecessary and management should think about the point I'm trying to make. Otherwise, all good. You gonna see more of me. Thank you for everything.
They did great. Much better than any Barecelo I was in, so far. Don't get me wrong. These are great hotels but these guys made a lasting impression. Rooms are fantastic. Everything you might need is there. Staff is excellent. Very polite and caring. They will help you in any way they can. I've interacted with Beverly at the reception desk, fantastic Goran and Sasho, as well as Javier in the restaurant and they are really A+ employees. I always thought kitchen is one of the pain points in Barcelos I've visited. There was always plenty of food, but nothing you would remember. Until now. Food is really great, tasty and there are many things to pick from (which is becoming an anomaly lately in HORECA). Kudos to the kitchen and restaurant staff. Minibar is empty, but you can order anything you want from a room service. I saw Hilton practicing that and I don't mind. If I was reading the papers properly the prices were exactly the same like in the bar. So good job there too.

United KingdomThere was a bit of a misunderstanding with breakfast. We paid 60 euros thinking it was for our three day stay but it was per day. It was a nice breakfast but very expensive at 60 euros a day. Nearly as much as the room itself!
Very friendly staff and great location. Close to ferry for Valletta. Staff went above and beyond to make our stay special. Clean and comfortable rooms. Great spa and gym facilities. Once the outdoor pool is ready, that will be the best place to watch the sunset over Valletta.
