Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe 'hostel' is more like a 2-bed house that is being used to make money. The rooms are essentially all open-planned as you can't really close the doors - 1 bunk rooms is ensuite and the other isn't, and both dorms' people use both bathrooms so people come and go a lot. Also the queues for the bathroom was mad because the showers are in the same rooms as the toilets and there are 2 for 12 people, plus the water pressure is so weak it takes forever to shower and get soap off. Make sure you shower in the day if you don't want to p people off. The experience might have been slightly better in the non-ensuite room further from the kitchen but I wouldn't say sleep was easy. A couple nights it was great but it really depended on your bunkmates, one night I decided to sleep on the floor in the hallway (someone was already on the sofa) to get some peace and quiet. There are no curtains and no lights for each bunk so to see anything you have to use phone torch or turn on the overhead lights which is obviously really annoying if someone arrives late at night. There is also not easy access to plugs for many of the beds. I'm not saying don't stay here, I did have a wonderful time in Malta and it did the job of somewhere to lay my head (I have definitely stayed in worse hostels for sure) but there is 0 privacy, you essentially are moving in with 11 other people into a 2-bed house which is fine as long as you know what to expect. It wasn't cramped, its a big property but it was definitely.. intimate communal living. Not sure how else to describe it. It's all manageable but it's annoying that it could be easily improved with a couple of simple curtains and stick-on lights added to the beds; extension cables on the bed posts; and a polite suggestion that the en-suite bathroom should only be for that room and the other bathroom should only be for the 2nd room guests at least at night.
The location and price were great. There was plenty of space to cook in the kitchen which is great for saving money. The way the 'hostel' is designed isn't ideal (see below) but it does mean you get to know the people around you well.

Morocco1 toilet (that shares the shower) for so many people so you can’t even go pee if someone is showering for 20 mins. There is no staff on site so when people are loud or disrespectful there is no one to go and see. Although very spacious the sound travels and echos so loud people disturbs sleep easily. They can’t fix the ceilings and space (which is in itself a plus) but they can have staff there at least. It’s like an Airbnb but hostel so people can do whatever they want. So for this and the higher price (than say Il Girzq or Sliema) I gave a lower rating. Maybe take a private room.
Good beds and wifi. Very clean and small towel provided. Great location.

United KingdomThere was no breakfast food or cereal, nothing, not even tea or coffee or bread provided (unlike most hostels I've stayed in). The showers. They were clean and modern, but unfortunately there were only two showers and one was not working. The one which was working had very little pressure, and only the handheld shower head worked, with a very poor weak spray. Unless you like cold showers of course.....

El SalvadorThere's only two bathrooms. The lockers are tucked under the beds so rolling them out makes noise for everyone in the room. There is no power outlet for the people on the top beds. You either bring an extension yourself, which nobody will do, or you leave your phone charging away from you which isn't very safe.
The location is great and the place was clean. There aren't many budget options in Valletta so this a great if you are looking to save in accommodation.

IrelandThe check-in was a bit messed up: I didn't receive their message and was waiting for a long time outside until I accessed the Booking app and could reach out to the host. The fact that in all 6 days I didn't see any worker there apart from the cleaner was a bit weird as well, as problems might come up and there was never someone there to help (Marina was very responsive via whatsapp, though); the shower water pressure was pretty bad; and lastly there were no plugs on upper beds.
The location was awesome, walking distance to all spots in Valletta and 8 min from the bus terminal that takes you to all cities of Malta. Also the place is very beautiful.

PolandThere were only 2 toilets in the whole hostel so it was a little bit annoying especially in the morning. Also the 2nd room should have their own toilet. There would be less noise at night then. Now people from the other room entered our room. They should improve the water pressure in the shower. When one person takes shower in one bathroom there is no water in the other bathroom:(((

United KingdomThe really hard springs on some of the mattresses I get to sleep on were poking my body making it rather painful and hard to rest after a long day of touring. The only solution was to use half of the duvet underneath while barely being able to cover myself with the other half. Also the provided Towel was rather small.
The location is superb for those looking to stay in Valletta and explore the surrounding areas with great links to transportation via ferry and bus, a beautiful garden just outside the hostel with amazing views to the main square and bay towards Sliema, great for the sunset view. Hostel itself very clean and spacious with a very high ceilings, very quiet too, except when someone is doing something there is a lot of reverb. Better use some earplugs at night.
