Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe loved the Hidden Gem, and there's nothing we didn't like or that we'd want to be changed or improved upon.
Friendly and very accommodating. Quick to respond to messages and calls. We made our booking at 4 am for the same day, and we were contacted 1st thing to arrange check-in. Quiet with very thick stone walls, which also help with temperature control. We didn't need the aircon on even in 28 degrees heat. All areas were clean, with a thorough room clean each morning. A lift to all floors. Amazing views over the town and beyond from the roof terrace - on a clear day, you can see the sea. Sun loungers, table and chairs, use of towels. Great location in itself, but it is also a perfect central location for getting to all areas you may want to visit.

HungaryThere was no hot water until we realised that the inlet tap of the boiler was closed. After we opened it we had hot water, but there was a very loud squeeking noise until the boiler fully filled up with water. The small refrigerator takes a lot of time to cool down, and is very loud.
Very good location, beautiful building. Receptionist man was very nice and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Nice rooftop terrace.

United StatesThe whole city of Rabat had power outages 3 nights.
My husband and I spent one week in the Hidden Gem boutique hotel in July 2023. We were looking for an authentic, quiet place to stay, away from the hassle and bustle of the noise of the city and the thousands of tourists. The hotel is located in beautiful historic Rabat. As soon as you leave the accommodation, you are surrounded by amazing sites, narrow streets, small shops, authentic restaurants and old churches. It is wonderful to take a stroll in the evening after a delicious meal and just get lost walking around, or to visit the absolutely beautiful historic site of Mdina (the old capital city of Malta). This site is approximately a 7 minutes walk from the hotel. The location could not be more convenient as it is also just a 5 minute walk from the main bus station where you can catch multiple busses to Valetta (the capital city) which is a short, 20 minutes ride away. My husband and I purchased a weekly card to travel by bus anywhere in the island and you can catch busses from Rabat to almost any part of Malta. Buses run every 20 minutes, half an hour. It is convenient, easy and the buses are air conditioned. The locals and the bus drivers are very helpful. We wish the best of luck to Patrick (the owner and operator of the Hidden Gem hotel) and his family after the tremendous renovation efforts and the commitment to the project. The restoration took 6 years and the details and creativity went into the process is very impressive. Our room was pristine and equipped with everything we needed, it was also nice and cool during mid July. We highly recommend the Hidden Gem hotel to anybody who wants to spend an amazing vacation on Malta. We could not have been happier with our choice.

RomaniaIt was a truly remarkable experience staying in a 400-year old traditional Maltese house. But even more remarkable than that are its owners that made me the perfect holiday with their tips&triks. After seeing the whole island, I am definitely sure that Rabat & The Hidden Gem are the perfect places to stay in Malta in terms of everything.

South AfricaThis is not a critique on the hotel, but Rabat doesn't have a single laundry service - business opportunity for someone! The hotel does have an external laundry service contact that collects and returns laundry, but the service takes a few days.
Lovely, spacious room with marvellous 360° views from the balcony. The bed is extremely comfortable. The wi-fi has a strong signal, and the TV is nice and big. The hosts are super friendly and helpful, and the hotel is beautiful and peaceful.
