Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaA consideration to have a bigger fridge in the family unit and maybe a shelf or closet for clothes.
Quietness, proximity to the lake. For 2 Star rated, it exceeded my expectations. Staff members are very friendly and helpful.

United KingdomI was there in summer (September) when it was hot, and the chalet was very stuffy as it doesn't have much ventilation. But I slept on the upper floor with the ceiling fan and it was OK. Then a monkey stole the toothpaste from my bathroom(!) - they need locked cabinets in the bathroom, or a sign telling you not to leave anything out because of the monkeys. Finally, and this isn't the hotel's fault, but the fishing village next to the hotel plays loud music almost all day everyday, so it wasn't as peaceful as I expected.
Beautiful natural surroundings and view of the lake. Nice to be able to hike up into the hills from the hotel. The chalet felt very private and I enjoyed the view from the balcony. Staff were super friendly. Food was pretty good and priced according to what you'd expect from a hotel/resort.

United KingdomThere was not anywhere to walk to but it does have a private beach, a pool and lovely seating areas so I didn't really need to go anywhere!

IcelandWe loved our stay, the only thing would be that there was quite a wide crack on the balcony door of our cabin that let some unwelcomed insects in, I told the manager about it and I’m sure it has been fixed :)
Amazing location, in the woods just above the beach. Beautiful surroundings with very funny monkeys that pay occational visit (they have a guard to control them at all times, so they behave very well when they get into the area). Very friendly staff, good food and a relaxing atmosphere :) Wifi available upon request, but like anywhere else it’s not completely reliable, but more so then in many other places :)

KenyaI realized that the room I had booked did not entitle me to a television, something I always take for granted in a lodging place - I don't mind paying a little extra just to have access to a television. Also I didn't like the rough and dusty road to the Lodge - though it's a short drive.
The location is nice and within reach of other attractions in Senga Bay. The staff is friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the meals and the breakfast was super, especially the Spanish omelet! The place is set in an unique environment: chalets perched on huge rocks and with amazing view of Lake Malawi; watching monkeys swinging from one tree branch to another; and the forestry surroundings! The sunrise is breathtaking! The walk between my chalet and the restaurant was refreshing - good exercise.

United StatesThe bar was not stocked very well. They couldn't make many cocktails because of not having the ingredients. It would have been nice to have more choices for a tropical cocktail.
The scenery was amazing, and the staff was very friendly. I loved the chalet. It was comfortable and had everything that I needed. The grounds were well kept.

United KingdomThe resort was recommended to me so unfortunately (and unusually for me) I came with expectations that weren't fulfilled. Additionally, menu is limited and the food not great. My stomach still hasn't settled more than a week later. Resort is relatively small and has a lot of young drinking day visitors. If you don't get to the facilities before they arrive, you can't use them - e.g. shaded loungers by pool - which could also be said for residents I know. 'Private' beach is small and full of day visitors. Village next to the resort played loud music late into the night. Wifi only available in restaurant area, not in rooms.
Friendly staff. Nice balcony with chalet room, would benefit from loungers - it's the only space available to relax that you're guaranteed able to use (due to numbers of day visitors).

United KingdomWe were two women guests and felt very unsafe during the day and at night. There was a hostile atmosphere from the male staff and having booked several nights we left after 1. The room was small and claustrophobic and we could hardly open/close the bathroom door as it was fitted with an industrial spring. Beach was littered with rubbish and broken bottles. Many things on menu not available so we resorted to pizza for dinner
Breakfast was average

South AfricaVery average accommodation, perhaps below average for the price/night. No aircon and the mattress was well worn. The cottages are small A-frames with thatch roofing and toilet/shower outside the main structure. No guided walks outside of the resort were offered. Canoes to hire at $5/hr. Food was average. I was not offered any breakfast beyond the cereal, boiled eggs and sweet-potato on display. All the garden and poolside furniture were colonised by ants that had nested inside the metal tubing of the seat frames, which made a relaxing read outside in the shade impossible; the pool water was also deep green. The setting is beautiful, with a small private beach adjacent to a small fishing village. The resort is fairly isolated, which I enjoyed but not ideal for people seeking a social environment.

United KingdomLimited food options. my pancakes were too thick so both dry/crumbly on the outside yet the mixture was raw in the middle (they were still liquid in the centre). I sent them back and didn't order breakfast again. I understand that it's perhaps difficult to keep fresh fruit/veg at the lake but with so much local produce, I expected there to be some fresh fruit available with breakfast or fresh fruit juice available in general.
The location and the setting was lovely. Staff were very friendly. The bean tikka masala was nice.
