Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IsraelThe fact you had to walk 200 stairs, but as said, the views are definitely worth it
Everything was great! Both the location and the staff were amazing. The breakfast was delicious and the views were spectacular. We had the upper room, where it's like a little apartment- with a kitchen, 2 rooms, and big showers. We enjoyed the fact it was off the main beach, but take into consideration it is a 5-7 min walk up the hill, for us it was definitely worth it!

A beautiful spot with incredible views. Charming and beautiful with just the right amount of attention. A real feeling of being at home with attentive and lovely host Silvia. We loved it for one night. Paired back and very comfortable. Close to the beach and everything you need.

United StatesThere isn't anything I would not change
The property is pristine, situated on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean, the design of this hotel reminded me of a beautiful place I stayed in Greece. It's got major Mediterranean vibes. Our room was poolside and it was quiet, peaceful, we woke up to the sound of waves in the mornings. Casa Kalmar is super small yet you never see much of the people who are staying here, it is so private and you feel like you have the entire villa to yourself.

United StatesAmazing property with incredible views. It’s not right on the beach and there are some stairs that take a little bit of energy to get back up, but the view and cooling breeze is totally worth it!! The rooms are so comfortable, no problems with the AC, wifi, hot water, or water pressure. And the staff was soo nice! The included breakfast is amazing. And I loved the snacks and alcohol that you can take on the honor system :)

United StatesNothing!
The entire staff was very hospitable but I really want to thank Chawndra in particular who made the stay so special! Her warmth, kindness and attentiveness made us feel so welcome every second of the stay :) The property is the perfect blend of relaxing and calming with proximity to the hussle and bussle of the nearby Zipolite main section. The secluded stairway to town also has incredible scenic views so it’s a beautiful stroll into city!

United KingdomNo biggie for me but the WiFi wasn't always stable.
Beautiful place, the views and pool are incredible. Walk down to the beach was fine, took about 7-8 mins and they give you really clear instructions when you check in. I was fortunate enough to not have to climb back up but I can imagine it's quite the work out (might also be a little daunting at night if solo travelling). Everyone was super friendly and attentive. The breakfast was good, both cold and hot options provided. Rooms were cute and bathrooms spacious, I didn't have any issues with hot water like some other reviews.

United KingdomNothing too major, but one day the room didn't get made up.
Wow this place was paradise! I stayed here for 5 nights in the Surf suite (I don't regret the splurge!) and it was amazing having a private balcony with an ocean view and waking up to the sound of waves. The room was great and well equipped with a nice big bathroom. The infinity pool was breathtaking and nothing quite like taking a dip at sunset or under the stars (the pics don't do it justice). Staff were very helpful and were able to arrange taxis to and from Huatulco airport (1 hour ride). It's about 10 min walk from town, but it was worth being a little bit out of the center to enjoy the tranquility of the place which is its beauty. At night the path to the hotel is lit and is safe (there are others walking the same way), but I'd still recommend making sure you have enough battery on your phone for extra light. Zipolite as a destination was great and very laid back with some great dining options. You can easily get around on the trucks for 10-15 pesos so no real need to hire taxis unless returning later. Personal favorites were Pizzeria La Fenice, Clandestino, Gota Gorda and it's little coffee shop, Xhuba, Señora Juana, La Providencia, Mau Mao, and in Mazunte La Sombrila and the very cute Icaro Cafe. Don't miss watching the sunset at Punta Cometa and checking out Playa Mermejitas in Mazunte.

CanadaThe ONLY thing that we didn't like about our stay was the shower. The water pressure was non-existent and the shower could not get warm/hot. We asked a staff member to help fix it, but nothing changed. If they are able to fix this - Kalmar would be one of my favourite hotels in the world! We were only there for 2 nights so the lack of shower didn't bother me too much, if we were there for longer I would have been very frustrated.
Breakfast was unreal! The best breakfast we had our whole trip. Also, the location was fantastic - out of the hustle and bustle of Zipolite, but not too far either. You just have to be comfortable walking up a lot of stairs!

United StatesI really can’t think of a thing.
The entire staff were excellent. The great service started from the moment we engaged with Casa Kalmar to book the room. The setup of the hotel is super smart with the honor system of the mini bar. We loved hearing of Silvia’s efforts towards the environment and community. And … the breakfasts were just perfect and super yummy. The community table for breakfast helped to engage with fellow guests each day.

United StatesThe 200 steps from beach to hotel took some getting used too, but that is why the views were so good. You will only get about 45 seconds to 1 minute of hot water in the shower, but this is not unusual in this region of Mexico.
Rooms were clean, comfortable, and had ac. View was incredible (especially from infinity pool looking out over ocean). Breakfast was plentiful and very good. Staff was very friendly.

United StatesA wonderful stay at Casa Kal Mar! This property is absolutely lovely. The staff members are welcoming and attentive. Every morning we looked forward to the wonderful breakfast and coffee/tea overlooking the pool and the ocean. It is a small property which we loved. We stayed in the Surf Suite and the views were incredible. The sunrise is absolutely breathtaking and the property is so peaceful. Every afternoon we would come back and take a swim in the pool. We are already planning a trip back for the future.
