Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe eco toilet fills up fairly quickly, but they change them every 3 days so shouldn't be too much of a problem even if you're staying a week.
What a beautiful spot in the heart of Oaxaca. The rooms are all themed according to regions of Mexico, and our room was full of decoration made of musical instruments. The rooftop was perfect, especially to watch the moon. It's an eco-friendly, conscious place to stay in a very clean, artistic city.

United StatesThe mattress was a little firm for me, but I consider that a personal preference. Rooms were not extremely soundproof, but this was rarely an issues.
The staff was great! They were supportive, very helpful, courteous and friendly. I stayed for a month and felt like part of the family! The common kitchen was well organized and clean. The property felt secure. The hotel was environmentally conscious, with recycling, and composting toilets that were managed efficiently.

United KingdomThe eco toilet is probably not to everybody's taste (sawdust based toilet rather than flush) and is only changed every 3 days (can be changed sooner though upon request), but we did appreciate its lower environmental footprint compared to a flushing toilet.
Staff were lovely, friendly, and very accommodating. Gave us a tour of the facilities upon arrival, and helped us book a taxi to the airport at the end. Great communication through WhatsApp throughout too. Facilities - loved the communal kitchen, all guests get a shelf in the cupboard and fridge, so you can cook meals there if you want. There are also tea and coffee facilities there so you could always get a coffee in a morning before heading out for the day. Rooms - we loved the decor and the focus on indigenous art. The bed was comfy and the room stayed lovely and cool despite it being 30+ degrees (c) outside. Location - 10 minute walk into the town centre and felt very safe, perfect if you want to be able to explore the town but also want somewhere a bit quieter to sleep. Sustainability focus was also great - separate waste bins which were clearly labeled and refilled soaps in the bathroom.

United KingdomI think a couple of complimentary kitchen items would have been nice e.g tea, coffee, refreshments, snacks. It would have been nice if there was a mini bar fridge or something where you could buy drinks. Our room and bed was a little small for 2 people and 2 massive suitcases but we managed fine. A nice touch would be a few sunloungers for the terrace.
I really enjoyed my stay at Niyana. They have made a really lovely space away from the busy streets. The care and attention to their environmental impact was amazing. I've never seen so many bins! I liked that the property had a roof terrace so you could sit in the sun and read / bathe. It felt very safe and secure and was a good location to be able to walk to lots of great places. One of the best parts of the stay was the helpfulness of the staff they were super responsive to messages on whatsapp and helped us book a private tour - very much appreciated.

AustraliaOur room was a bit dark as there weren’t any windows and the eco toilet took a bit of getting used to.
I liked that this place was tucked away from the main part of Centro district and had a lot of cool bars and bakeries close to it. Walk to centre wasn’t far and the staff were super friendly!

United KingdomWe found the bed to be a bit too small for us, though it was absolutely fine for a few days.
Gorgeous little eco-friendly hotel in the heart of Oaxaca. It's an ideal location and we felt super safe there. It was spotlessly clean and the staff were absolutely lovely. The dry toilet situation is a bit weird lol but it felt hygienic and really wasn't a problem for us.

United StatesI wish the kitchen were equipped with the beautiful Oaxaca ceramics made in the area but this is purely out of aesthetic desire. The kitchen is otherwise very well equipped.
Niyana was an oasis in the hustle of Oaxaca! The staff and volunteers were friendly, attentive and welcoming. The gardens were not only beautiful but also provided delicious flavor to the dishes and tea I made at the hostel. Niyana is an excellent location between Centro and Jalatlaco providing a great home base to explore multiple burros of Oaxaca.
