The location is perfect for those who want to explore all that George Town has to offer. 2 minutes walk from eating streets and bar outfits. The host is very welcoming. Bedroom was comfortable, clean and cool (aircon). Bathroom facilities were great. Could not fault this place, would recommend to anyone staying in George Town!

Little bit noisy but nothing earplugs won’t fix

Shane and his fellow staff could not have been kinder, he was so helpful and accommodating. We felt very comfortable there. The location is 10/10, so close to everywhere you want to go. There are loads of showers and toilets in the shared bathroom and they are always spotless clean. Great value for money, we are very happy 😊

The guesthouse is neat, clean, cozy and comfortable. The location is good as well. It does not take you too much time to walk to major spots. The staff is friendly, replies the message fast and provides adequate assistance. I will definitely consider to stay here when I come to visit Penang next time.

Although the street noise itself couldn’t be heard, other guests in the accommodation sounded like elephants upstairs who completely ignored the quiet time hours which were sadly not enforced.

The location was perfect, with so many restaurants and bars to try on the same street as the accommodation. The host was faultless, couldn’t have asked for a better welcome to the island with amazing hospitality all round.

Walls are thin and you do hear a lot. But I knew this going in from reviews. So it didn't bother me much.

Great location. Lots of good food options and bus stops with a short walk. Staff was great at answering all my questions. They were very responsive. Wifi worked well for me. This is a good place to stay in George town. Great value.

Everything was perfect

I don't have words to describe how amazing this place is and how nice are all the people working here. The place is quiet and clean, located in the best area of the city where you can find lots of good hawker centers, restaurants, bars and everything you need. Very grateful to MK who helped me to decide the best destination to visit after Georgetown. 10/10, I hope to come back here one day!

When we first arrived at Aayu Chulia it was different than we had thought it was going to be. The host was very responsive before we arrived and told us to get in touch if we needed anything. When we arrived we had thought there might be a front desk area or someone from Aayu Chulia around to help us with any questions in check in, but quickly realized we were pretty much on our own. We had some neighbours that sounded quite sick down the hall and some other neighbours who sounded like they were in an intense argument the first night but not having any staff to go to was a bit unsettling. A couple days in I met the host in person while he was in the building and felt much more grounded once I understood the situation more of our stay. If we had gone into this stay expecting we’d have our own sort of independent apartment (with little to know staff around) it would have been different, but we had imagined a busy hostel with staff around to help answer questions about the city etc. while the host was very responsive through WhatsApp, it wasn’t quite the same.

Aayu Chulia was a place that grew on us throughout our stay! Shayne, the host was very helpful when contacted and it was in a good location. The air con worked great, super clean and for the price well worth it!

The room smelt randomly throughout the night of sewage. Also, quite loud. It sounded like someone was trying to get into our room all night but I think it was the noise from upstairs.

Size of room was a bit tiny and you can heard sound from out of the room and upstair because floor made from wood. It reminded me to my childhood with grand-grandpa. He would hit my anklebone if I walked louder. LOL But you won't hear anything out of the guesthouse.

They provided everything you need in your room and common area. There were disposable toothbrushes and ear plugs. The location was great. It closed to everywhere you need to go. You can fill your bottle with hot/cold water and go out to walk around. There was 7-11 with ATM. You can keep in touch with owner by whatsapp. It was very useful.

It’s an old building so quite noisy! There were guests hanging out in the common areas being loud until after midnight. There are plenty of bars and pubs to go to if you want to be socialising til late :)

Comfortable bed and clean rooms. Shared bathroom but lots of showers and toilets, so not a problem. Great location, an easy walk to the sights in Georgetown. Hosts were very friendly and helpful too!

It is simply perfect for my repeated stay as a start off point to dive deep into Penang heritage. Lots of cafes, hawker food to panper foodie stomach. Team has excellent zest to address highlights recommendation around Penang. Warm staff, warm-hearted stay. Thank you.
