The stated price of the steamboat was RM58/pax in their printed menus, but they charged RM77 saying that their website price had the updated one. I booked the steamboat in advance having seen their printed menus, so I felt rather cheated.

Setting of the restaurant was good, with very nice view of the city.

New Cuatomers MUST SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BECAREFUL. The actual total paid is difference from what stated in Booking.com app. The staff has told me, it is because of the gimmick marketing strategy, the commision.

The furniture is old and rusty. The room’s facilities are basic. No TV, no mini bar. There are ants nearby the window perhaps due to the small openings of the old netting installed at the window. The carpet is old hence thin, hard and discolored. There’s black mould on the ceiling. The moment you open the door, you will be able to smell the staleness of the room.

The view at the back garden is exceptionally beautiful. The hotel itself is part of Penang history. So many history facts on the wall with pictures that help us to know Penang better.

The room is a little bit dusty. I had problem during check in. My booking wasn't in their system. This is the 3rd time. Booking.com need to check the system.

As many reviewers have noted, the place is overdue for a refurbishment/renewal. Because of it’s dated-ness, night-time atmosphere feels heavy and uncomfortable.

Fantastic location, fantastic views, beautiful forest atmosphere at the restaurant garden. Bed was clean and good. Staff were very friendly. Suits an independent/solo traveller well: I actually do keep tidy after myself and don’t like housekeeping to come in daily, so this works for me.

Cleanliness was horrible. Toilet door was broken and couldn’t be locked. The mattress was flat and sank in when you sit on it. We left without staying the one night we paid for the room.

The only thing commendable was the view from the dining room.

Staff are not well supported by the management. They didn't really know what the processes were and could not answer questions in English very well. The room I was given was not the one I requested (asked for two double beds, was given three singles of which one was a camp bed). The fan in the room could not cover the area of it so it was quite stuffy. The netting made it even more humid which added to the mustiness of the room. The staff brought in an extra stand fan but it was very dusty, like it hadn't been cleaned in years. The floor of the room was carpeted but due to the humidity, it was quite dirty and had spots in many places. The beds were very thin to the point that the backboard could be felt through the mattress. The lighting in the room wasn't great and due to the location (atop Penang Hill), there was no cell service from all service providers within the room. What compounded this issue was that the WiFi at the hotel couldn't work. Overall, it felt quite unsafe to stay overnight as there were no other guests that we could see and communications were limited. I was supposed to have my mother stay there overnight but due to the situation, she did not feel comfortable to be there and we just took her home instead. Quite a disappointing experience. After doing more checks on the site, it seems that not all the rooms are equal. Some do look more presentable/comfortable than others. Maybe it was just my luck but for the price point being charged, a little spruce up would do the place a world of good.

Location is very prime, near to the attractions and food stalls of Penang Hill. Garden is pretty and the sounds of nature are everywhere. The place itself has a nice vintage feel to it.
