Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaLoved this place. The hosts Sean and Natasha were most welcoming, helpful and friendly. The breakfasts were amazing! The owners made sure we were kept well fed, explaining all the lovely food coming out of the kitchen, thanks to their amazing cook. It was lovely to come home to a quiet and safe environment every afternoon and relax by the pool. Room was very quiet and serene. We slept very well! The residence is within walking distance to town, or if the heat gets a bit much for you just Grab a local taxi (called Grab!) which was excellent value.

I loved my 4-night stay in Casugria. Such a superb place and so incredibly kind and welcoming owners Sean and Natasha. Breakfasts here are epic. Lovingly prepared by Elizabeth, they were a feast for the eyes and the taste buds every morning. I also enjoyed two home-made lunches and tea time snacks here that were wonderful. My room was very homely and comfortable with a lovely pool just in front of it. The house is surrounded by a sheltered garden, providing a green oasis in the centre of the busy city, yet only a short walk away from the main attractions. My hosts took such good care of me, showing me around, giving me recommendations, providing transport to places. I even had a priviledge of beeing shown around an old Malay house by its owner Haji Ibrahim (kindly organised by Sean) and having dinner at a Portuguese restaurant as well as seeing the Portuguese settlement in this special town (also organised by my incredibly kind hosts). I have learned so much about this historic, multicultural town and had such a memorable stay in Casugria that I will always remember.

FranceCasugria only has 4 chalets so do not expect to see many other guests in the common areas like other hotels if you are into mingling and socializing. While Jonker and Heeren street may not be at your doorstep, they’re only 900 metres away and 15 minutes by foot. Because of this, there is less noise, less congestion, better and modern comfort, more privacy and most important a spacious garden with swimming pool. It’s nice to go to Jonker and Heeren but to swim and chill, Casugria offers perfect privacy and exclusivity.
Safe haven for solo female travellers with modern facilities. Coming from the Dutch Speaking part of Belgium I wanted to stay somewhere in Melaka with a strong connection to Dutch Colonial History. Casugria represents the romantic essence of the Dutch Colonial charm being the former residence of one of the last Dutch Governor of Melaka, but with modern comfort. Another requirement besides comfort was safety as I was travelling on my own, and you can not find a safer accommodation than Casugria. It only has 4 chalets available with a lot of privacy as it offers an exclusive access for registered guests only. The main gates stay safely locked for privacy, exclusivity and safety. Essentially, because of this exclusivity and of its market positioning by default you may rest assured that those staying at Casugria value privacy, exclusivity, safety, decency and courtesy. Basically you get what you pay in terms of ultimate privacy and exclusivity. The accommodation itself (chalet, pool, garden), and the food as well, are all excellent and perhaps even among the best in Malaysia. You’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy the genuine hospitality and kindness of the hosts Sean and Natasha with delicious meal preparations they offer you during the day to have the best holiday experience possible.

AustraliaI loved everything about my stay at Casugria, Natasha, Sean and Elizabeth made me feel right at home. As a solo female traveler, I love to be able to recommend places that make me feel welcome, comfortable and secure, 10 out of 10 for all 3. I didn't' have to ask for a thing, Natasha and Sean had everything covered from welcoming snacks and eating recommendations, to organizing transfers to and from the airport, nothing was too much trouble at all. I will be back.

United KingdomWhen we arrived we were a bit surprised-behind a high wall close in the city off a busy road but the house and garden is insulated from this and we came to appreciate the security this provided as well as the wonderful warm welcome and character of the residence
The owners are incredibly hospitable and welcoming into their garden and the grounds of their home. They were so helpful in giving us advice on exploring Malacca. We felt they treated us so kindly like good friends. Food freshly cooked, food hygiene good and delicious to eat. Unlimited tea , coffee, water. Casugria is a character property and family home and there is the opportunity to learn so much more about Malaysia . The pool is clean, private in a lovely setting. Walking distance to most attractions.

GermanyEverything was fine :)!
We have spent a great time at this wonderful place. It was very quiet, though it was close to the centre and so we slept really well after long days of exploring the lovely town of Melaka. The beds were very comfortable and the room was bright, very clean and nice. It was an easy and safe walk into the centre, even at night, only 15-20 minutes by foot. Many cafés and restaurant just around the corner aswell as a big shopping centre. We loved the pool and the tropical garden, where we relaxed reading, sleeping and enjoying life. Sean and Nat have been very good hosts, so friendly and caring, quick to response to our many questions, helpful at all times and telling us interesting facts and stories about Melaka and Malaysia. Elisabeth made a very tasty full breakfast for us every morning, lots of variety and healthy. What a nice way to start your day! It was our first time in Malaysia and we will definitely come back and travel, starting at the Casugria, of course. The country is easy to travel, people are very friendly and gentle, the roads are fantastic and there are many beautiful places to visit. It is a peaceful country, perfect to explore for travellers of all ages.

Gracious hosts that know how to perfectly balance privacy with an amazing experience of the harmony and hospitality that is Malaysia. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Melaka... United KingdomBeautiful haven away from the hustle and bustle of Melaka (but within walking distance of the old centre). Lovely property with all you could need for a comfortable stay. Loved having a pool to cool down in at end of the day and the shared sitting/dining area was great. We didn’t get to meet Sean and his family in person as they were away but communication with him was excellent and he was very responsive, friendly and helpful. Elizabeth and Rosemary were there at the property to make us feel so welcome and at home. Would highly recommend a stay at Casugria.

ChinaCasugria is a Boutique Private Residential Accommodation and not a hotel per se. So do not expect to see many people during your stay to socialize or mingle around with. Although the rates at Casugria are competitive they may be out of reach for the average man on the street due to the exclusivity of there being only 4 chalets available. Rates are not reduced even when occupancy is low, to protect existing guests already booked in, so do not expect any discounts or last minute reductions.
Casugria is the only Boutique private landed residential accomodation with an exotic turquoise resort pool and a lush verdant garden within a radius of 1km from the Jonker and Heeren areas. To be precise Casugria is a mere 900 metres away from Jonker and Heeren. On the average it takes 15-18 minutes to walk to Jonker and Heeren. It is certainly worth the walk as almost all hotels and accommodations in the vicinity of Jonker and Heeren are shophouse hotels that do not have a spacious garden let alone a sizeable pool. My family and i were pleasantly suprised at the initiative of the owner Sean who got in touch with us prior to check in. Needless to say we were given a very warm welcome and made to feel right at home from the moment we were greeted at the gates of Casugria. Check in was a breeze and instead of the usual hassle of tedious registration we were settled in comfortably and speedily which was great as we were tired after the long journey from JB. Another great aspect of staying in Casugria is that there are only 4 chalets available for rent at any one time. Since there are only 4 chalets in Casugria on most occasions you would have a lot of privacy to chill and while your day away in the many nooks and crannies of the property. As Casugria is a private residence and not a hotel, the general public are not allowed to casually walk in. Only registered guests from the 4 chalets are allowed access. This made our stay very private and exclusive. Breakfast was generous, varied and changed daily. What however makes breakfast special here, is that we could listen to chirping birds perched on the many trees and plants in Casugria while enjoying our freshly cooked breakfast. Our chalet was ultimately very quiet due to the excellent soundproofing and my family and i had the most satisfying deep sleep ever on both nights at Casugria.

Beautiful, serene gardens which offered tranquility not far from all the renowned attractions of Melacca. The pool was so lovely and peaceful. Hosts are amazing, so helpful and went far and beyond expectations. It was good to stay in a Dutch heritage home and support some Malacca history. This offered a better and more personal experience to hotels and is highly recommended.

The enclosed garden and lovely little pool were a delight to return to after sightseeing in the busy historic centre of Malacca. We also loved Sean and Elizabeth's helpfulness in every way possible. The little common room with snacks and drinks to help oneself was a nice touch. The grounds and pool were beautiful and there were plenty of seating areas both shady and sunny. I even did my yoga on the lawn each morning before the generous breakfast which was a combination of home cooked Malaysian and European food.

Singapore1. Take Note Casugria is a Private Boutique accommodation and not a branded hotel chain. 2. Our stay of 3 nights was way too short and by the time we arrived we could not extend our stay as Casugria was already fully booked beyond our 3 nights.
Absolutely No Regrets Booking Casugria Dutch Residences Malacca 1. A very Warm & ‘Generous’ Welcome by the super friendly and kind hosts. 2. Tons of exclusivity as only 4 chalets for rent on such a big property. 3. High security as unlike hotels, entry into Casugria grounds is only for registered guests. Public not allowed in at all. 4. Maximum Privacy as we had our own self-contained independent cottage chalet unit in the garden near the pool. 5. The pool is 10 metres away, i did not have to worry about my child swimming. 6. Most of the time we had the pool to ourselves. 7. Our chalet was spotless, bathroom very clean, garden manicured and pool crystal clear. 8. Breakfast at the Dinning Pavillion is just 30metres away and you do not need to queue or register for it. 9. Breakfast was freshly cooked to our needs and was more than enough, we could not eat lunch. 10. Location is in the city and surrounded by Chinese, Thai, Malay, Indian & Peranakan Nyonya restaurants. 11. Location is a mere 220 metres from Pahlawan Mall. 280 metres from Mahkota Parade Mall and 900 metres to The Clock Tower. 600 Metres to A Famosa Portuguese Fort. 12. Once inside the garden is beautiful and peaceful my daughter did not want to leave the pool and go out to see Jonker and Heeren. 13. A very safe and secure accommodation for families with children. As the main gates are kept closed to the public, children can roam freely and safely in Casugria. 14. There are no steps or elevators everything is on the ground floor. 15. Staying in Casugria helps the Sean & Natasha conserve and preserve this Ancient Dutch Colonial Legacy for future generations to come.
