Friendly and helpful staff. The room I booked was not suitable for me (walking difficulties)as the toilet was on the second floor in the room. The hotel staff was really great to help me change to a room with the toilet on the same level. The hotel is really beautiful and ambient is really good. Beautifully preserved and reconstructed old building. Great location. Will go back to stay again.

It is just pricey for some pockets

Absolutely amazing experience to stay at East Indies Mansion. It was like travelling in time with all the comfort. Good size and comfortable room. Amazing breakfast experience. Staff was super attentious and available to support us. This hotel is also really well located and close to a variety of attractions and restaurants.

    Nothing.

The location is great. We were able to walk to many sites. Lots of good restaurants nearby. The hotel rooms were wonderful. Very quaint as in a restored mansion. We were traveling with another couple so the common spaces in the hotel allowed us to spend time together outside our individual rooms. The staff was very attentive and helpful.

Do yourself a favour and stay here. An elegant, beautiful retreat from the incredible George Town, with thoughtful touches from staff throughout our stay. We loved it and regret we couldn’t stay longer (at least this time!). Thank you all for looking after us.

The breakfast was delicious, but it would be great if the selection can customisable. Parking, which is road-side parking, can be difficult to get during weekends. However, it was nice of the staff to help us with the full-day parking payment (which we later paid before checking out) during our stay there.

The staff were friendly and approachable. Our stay was comfortable and relaxing. We like the spacious rooms and deeply appreciate the experience of staying in a place with rich history and culture.

Given it's an older building and has gaps at the top of the walls for ventilation, it wasn't sound-proof at all. However, that's the price you pay for a restored, well-ventilated building in this style. And for the most part the other guests were respectful of the quiet hours.

This hotel was a beautiful old building. It was clean and well ventilated (important in the hot and humid weather!) and breakfast was delicious. The location was in a really vibrant area surrounded by good food.

    It was all great

Everything. This is not your normal hotel. There is an old style history that is so different to your standard place. The rooms are large, uniquely outfitted, and had a charm that is hard to find. The staff were super polite and helpful. The location is great for enjoying Penang, especially the food. We enjoyed Kapitan, The Spicy Crab, and The Black Kettle the most and all are within easy walking distance. For atmosphere, try the restaurant directly opposite the Mansion. The whole family, including our 8 and 11 year daughters, all want to come back and stay again.

This wasn’t as issue for us, but there are lots of steps and things to step over in the building, so may be a problem for those with mobility issues.

    - Staff were amazing and so helpful - Very traditional building with lots of character - Varied breakfast which opened us up to different tastes - location great for walking round and exploring - clean building and rooms

Beautiful heritage hotel in the middle of Little India

The wifi wasn't great in our room so it was hard to plan our next day without connection. The walls and floors are also very flimsy so we could hear the upstairs guests. But everyone (us included) was extremely careful so it wasn't too disturbing.

East Indies Mansion is an extremely well-maintained heritage house in the middle of Little India. The room was big and clean. We enjoyed reading and taking pictures in the courtyard. There are so many knick-knacks and trinkets displayed around that it's almost distracting! We loved it and would love to come back again.

Sound insulation is very poor, that’s normal because it is an old building. We got unlucky and had very noisy neighbours (uncle and 2 nephews). Their noise bothered us both late night and early morning. Although this is the behaviour of other guests rather than the hotel itself, I do think they could have enforced their 10pm-8am quiet hours more strictly. Really a shame because the place is otherwise very peaceful. Wifi wasn’t great, but that was not a big problem for us.

Gorgeous hotel. Not necessarily the most luxurious, but just very nice. Everything looks beautifully designed, well maintaines and authentic. Our room was enormous. Staff was very friendly and helpful, without being pushy. Location is perfect to do anything in historic Georgetown by foot.

There was nothing we didn’t like. But we do have two observations. 1.our guests were all elderly so I believe a chair or a wall mounted rail in the shower area would be good and give stability for the people who have limited mobility. 2.Perhaps it would be good to have clear instructions on what one can or cannot cook or prepare in the kitchen area, not a big deal but a little sign may make it clearer. 3. Perhaps it would be also a good idea to remind guests when they check in that it is an authentic Heritage buildings d as such noise travels . Some of the guests may have only stayed in large hotels and don’t understand the meaning of being considerate and mindfulness.

The Hotel was perfect , authentic and very well decorated and maintained

The water heater in our room malfunctioned so we couldn't have warm or hot showers. We were given access to an alternative bathroom across the terrace.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Even when there was the occasional hiccup they were quick to troubleshoot. Ai Tee gave us some very good suggestions about where to go. Our room was very spacious and the beds were comfortable. Very quirky decor that gave it a homely touch. We enjoyed being able to bring our takeout dinner and have it in the comfort of the hotel dining room. I'm a vegetarian and it was great having Woodlands restaurant around the corner

Maybe a tiny fridge in the apartment would have been good

If there was breakfast, we were unaware of it. But the staff treated us to afternoon tea and looked after us very well. We had a couple of emergencies to do with a lost phone and computer problems, and they jumped to attention and solved the problems immediately, superb service.
