Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyWe had 1 to 3 mosquitos in the room almost every night because the doors and windows are not 100% tight/close.
Everything was perfect. The charming house and room, the super friendly and helpful staff, the convenient location in Little India, in walking distance to many different places of interest, great eateries etc.

United KingdomEverything was amazing - the rooms, communal areas and courtyard were beautiful and finished to such a high standard. We were welcomed with afternoon tea and both of the breakfasts during our stay were excellent. Great location for walking around George Town.

AustraliaNot much to fault except it would be nice to have a small fridge in the room to store some cold drinks. You can use the fridge in the kitchen but that's not so useful in the middle of the night or when you're relaxing in your room. Mosquitos in the room were an issue partly due to gaps in the walls where they can come in from the internal courtyard and even with the sprays and plug-ins they kept me awake for a few nights.
East Indies Mansion is a beautifully restored boutique hotel. Perfect if you don't want to stay in a modern, sterile, cookie-cutter type hotel. It is peaceful and quiet and you can enjoy and appreciate the beautiful historical architecture. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I loved the delicious afternoon samosas! And they were very welcoming when my daughter came to visit for an afternoon, even bringing us snacks and cold drinks to share with her. It's also well located in walking distance to food street stalls, cafes etc

AustraliaI had to go back on my pre booked flight otherwise I would have stayed longer!
I enjoyed my four nights in George Town so much more than I would have because I decided to stay at the East Indies Mansion. My room was extremely comfortable and I truly felt like I was staying in a mansion. Each morning a beautiful breakfast was prepared, as well as a lovely afternoon tea. There are plenty of places in the mansion to relax, but the room also has sufficient space to relax in as well. The entire staff were welcoming and helpful and were prepared to offer any assistance in helping me to discover the best of George Town. I am looking forward to returning to stay at the East Indies Mansion the next time I am in George Town.

IndiaStaying in a charmingly beautiful heritage bungalow is a treat in itself. The old mansion has been restored to its original design. The decor is stunningly beautiful. The location too is pretty central. The rooms are big and comfortable. Apart from the fact that you’re staying in a heritage mansion, what makes it better is the impeccable warmth of the hosts, in particular AiTee. She was so generous and kind! The afternoon tea and the breakfast served was also excellent

United KingdomThe warmth of greeting was exceptional. We were made to feel very at home. The accommodation, in a restored Chinese mansion, captured the history of the house whilst providing a comfortable and relaxing place to return to. The room was spacious and kept very clean during our stay. There was exceptional attention to detail from Ai Tee, whose friendliness, advice and afternoon tea treats made our stay memorable. The location of the hotel is great for exploring Georgetown and surrounding area and there are many places to eat nearby. We will definitely return to this hotel when we are in penang again.

SingaporeThere is a lack of soundproofing so you may hear noises from adjacent rooms.
Had an amazing stay in historic residence, with every part of the mansion beautifully decorated. Hospitality of the staff were great (AiTee), making us feeling welcome throughout the trip. They will provide tips on things to eat and do, which were extremely helpful. They have multiple rooms and each room has its unique layout, with rooms suited for family. We stayed in Anistar 2, which was clean, spacious and comfortable. There is an open-kitchen, where you can cook or dine in. Location is great with many food options nearby and within walking distance to some of the attractions Georgetown
