I am very particular about comfortable beds (it's a very personal choice). The double beds were sofa come beds with were springy. The springs were slightly uncomfortable but the pillow and blanket helped to give a better sleep.

Love how clean this place was. The pantry was stocked with coffee and tea. The room was cozy, the Aircon was perfect and the washrooms were clean. Talking about the staff....they were so kind and helpful. Guided us with all the good halal food in Penang. Always polite and accommodating. A place you can spend a few days without giving it a second thought.

The only downsize is that our window was facing the stairs and the light was constantly on, so the room wasn't very dark

Standard of cleanliness could be better. No lift so if you have big bags you are lugging them up potentially 4 flights of stairs. Pillows have seen better days.

Great location, easy communication with host, self check in was easy. Very accomodating when extending our stay (could move to new room earlier than 3pm which saved a big hassle of moving bags down all the stairs and back up) comfy beds.

We found a few ants in our room and not a massively social hostel but there is plenty of bars only about 10 minute walk away if you want to find lots of other travellers

Pillows were really not great, kind of weird to have people pass by our window and can see inside the room (a tainted window would be good), no place to put our stuff except on the floor. Floor was not so clean with women’s hairs.

We couldn't get a good wifi signal from our room. We had to keep going downstairs. There was a leak some where in the pipes, so the floor near the sinks was always wet. The pillows were not comfortable.

The location was great. Only 30m from a bus stop that most of the buses pick up from. If you are coming in off the ferry, then you can ride the CAT bus for free and it will drop you off right next to the hostel. Walking distance to most of the historic places in Georgetown. Filtered water. Hot water. Cold cold water. I liked that they had a specific code for the door. No need to worry about a key. Once you flip on the A/C and the room is cold in minutes. Staff was nice and helpful.

The pillows are terrible (it's fun because of the name of the place haha) but you can survive for a few nights. I also read a review saying the person missed a table in the room and I agree because I had food and no space to put it; my bags stayed on the floor. I needed earplugs to sleep in my private room, because I could listen to people talking in the next room and they were really loud arriving at midnight, and also people talking in the living area in front of my room.

The location is pretty good, in Chinatown and in a walk distance from many of the tourist places. The access was pretty easy, with code for the main door and at the room and you receive it in advance.

Not a problem, but only staircase access to rooms, so had to lug case up to level 3. Paint-work a bit shabby. Not the fault of Swing and Pillows, but this Malabar one is located close to a mosque, consequently I was woken in the early hours each night by the calling, which on the first night was so loud it was like having the loudspeakers right outside the door.

Budget but well thought out, good to have communal kitchenette and water dispenser. I had a queen room with en suite so was able to keep it clean and fresh, though I noticed the communal toilets and showers did get a bit smelly. Central location.

The keypads on the doorknobs were enough to drive someone mad, as everyone seemed to struggle with the codes. Beeping at all hours. The walls are quite thin, and there is a small communal area directly outside of the rooms on the second floor. If you are a light sleeper, I would recommend the 3rd floor.

Fantastic location with amazing food stalls directly out the front door. The rooms stayed cool, and the beds were comfy.
