Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe kitchen was a little basic. Because the hostel is out of town, it is advised to arrive before dark as you have to walk up a steep hill for the last 15 mins, as no taxi will take you the whole way.
The staff were very friendly and nice to talk to. The beds were comfy and came with mosquito nets and the bathroom was very modern and clean. The location of the hostel is in beautiful nature.

United StatesThere is nothing I didn’t love about this place.
This property is a slice of paradise. Located on several hectares of land that abut the Cerra Apante National Reserve, the property offers stunning views of Matagalpa. There are several fruit trees around the buildings that attract lots of birds. Our hostess was lovely and had plenty of interesting and useful information to share. The property owners seek to educate locals and school children about environmental issues. The thoughtfulness they have displayed in weaving this property seamlessly into its surroundings is a testament to their goals and values. I really wish I could have extended my stay.

United KingdomThe walk up the hill to the hostel, from the city, was a bit of a workout, but you don't come here for the city.
The food was great, the garden was lovely and the climate was perfect - a relief from the high sea level temperatures.

United StatesEverything was great!
Agualí is a beautiful place in the hills above Matagalpa. The nature is great here, and it is well worth going up the hill to spend time here. It is an added bonus that staying at Agualí supports Agualí’s environmental education programs for children and adolescents. We thoroughly enjoyed our three nights there and hope to return someday!

NicaraguaHost was very welcoming and we enjoyed great conversations every night. Her project is great and the ambitions she has to help the environment and local community sincere. More people should visit to help contribute to the cause.

PhilippinesAwesome stay, Gema made me feel very welcomed. The rooms and bathroom were clean and because it is on the top of the mountain, the weather is nice and fresh at night. It is a bit out of the ways as you have to climb a steep Hill for about fifteen minutes, but for relaxing, there is nothing like being away from the city. During my stay Gema was gracious and patient enough to help me practice my Spanish. On weekends they host different educational events such as English learning, bird watching, and learning about climate change to name a few. Really cool place, strongly recommend for anyone coming to Matagalpa!

CanadaThe bathroom was outdoos so there were a lot of mosquitoes in the shower. Taxi drivers have no idea where this place is so make sure you brush up on your directions in Spanish and have Google maps open 😀
Beautiful location, super friendly hosts. Our room was basically a whole house and had a lovely outdoor patio space.

Germany- getting to the property in our regular street car was not possible. So you have to walk a bit. But Gemma talked to a local Family just down the road and we were allowed to park our car on their property. - if you are traveling by public transportation keep in mind the Property is quite uphill. And Gemma recommended us to be home before dark, so going out to eat was always quite early.
- Amazing views - Great garden - Food available if needed - Walking trail right next to the property - lovely people around - food in town ist great!

GermanyThe only thing is that the hostal is up a hill, so it takes some time to get there and I wouldnt walk it in the dark.
My stay here was great, I can really recommend it. The staff was super friendly and helped me organizing trips and also how to get to my next stop. The cooked food was tasty and inexpensive. Everything was super clean. They have a garden with herbs snd some vetegables that can be used. The hostel is also part of a schoool, teaching english to some locals and environmental sense to children. So you support a good cause.

United KingdomSorry to say there were too many mozzies for me even with repellent on. Kitchen in bungalow had only basic equipment. Also when I stayed there was only one other person who I saw in the evening. Nicer to go as a family or group. And do not underestimate the hill up from town!
Lovely small nature reserve helping local families and educating children. Gardens and woods very pretty and it was peaceful. The staff I met were welcoming and friendly.
