Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsI didn't give the maximum for cleanliness this time because there was a plastic fork and hairs left on the ledge above the beds. Otherwise very clean. The water suddenly cut out totally the morning of my stay. The staff had it turned on again, but there was an annoying delay to let the water heat enough for a shower.
I tend to stay in the Budget hostel rather than the attached Martini Hotel because the private hostel rooms are much less dusty (no carpet, thinner curtains, newer bathrooms). With more hard surfaces, they seem cleaner. This time, I was given a room with twin beds (not the usual bunks), and the bathroom contained soap and shower gel, which I don't remember from previous visits. Ok, there is no desk or wardrobe, but you don't always need those. Staff are helpful, and let me check in early.

NetherlandsBeds don't have a number and therefore not assigned at the time of reservation. This can be good or bad depending on if you travel together.
It's very conveniently located in the city of Groningen, at a walking distance from the central station with supermarkets and restaurants near by. The room had a private bathroom with toilet and shower.

EgyptThe room keycard stopped working a few times, meaning I had to make my way back down to the reception to get it reactivated. Not much of a hassle but got annoying after the first time.
Hotel is located in an amazing quiet location eith a central location with great shops and restaurants close by. Staff were super friendly and were always helpful. Room was well kept and clean.

NetherlandsShower was very small and there was little water pressure. The shower curtain was also constistently sticking to my leg because of how small it was. Which led to the rest of the bathroom becoming wet.
You were able to set the temperature in the room. In city center. Good breakfast.

NetherlandsThere was a lot of noise from people during the night, which didn't let us sleep. There were several issues with the payment, given that every time I went to the counter I was told something was not paid and had to pay again, or that I had breakfast when I didn't. I also asked 3 times for soap for the toilet since there was none in the room when I arrived, and I never got it...
Breakfast was quite full, room was spacious and beds were comfortable. The entrance was also very nice.

United KingdomThe bathroom was tiny (I was the only person staying in the 10 bed room so I had the bathroom to myself and it was still uncomfortably small), and there was no toilet paper or soap in the dorm toilet or the communal ones in the corridor.
Great location and the staff were wonderful.

United StatesThe sink in the bathroom was clogged. It would drain, but exceedingly slowly. There was no soap in the bathroom. While we knew we were getting bunk beds, we reserved a room with four beds (two bunks) but ended up getting six. This wouldn't have been a problem were it not for the fact that all three bunks were crammed into a very small space, so that there was barely room to turn around. Also, there are no ladders to get up and down to or from the upper bunks, and climbing up and down seems dangerous. Finally, there was quite a bit of noise from the hallway and other rooms, which I suppose is to be expected from a youth hostel.
The location is excellent, and the accommodations are modest but fairly comfortable.

NetherlandsBut since this is a hostel, bring all your own soaps, shampoo etc, and don't expect anywhere to hang your clothes other than hooks on the back of the door. The bathroom and shower are tiny and would be impractical if sharing the bunk room with a stranger. There are additional bathrooms in the hallway, though I haven't looked at them. There is a lift, but also many sets of one or two stairs on the way to the room.
The Hostel is in a fantastic location on the Zuiderdiep, within 15 mins walk of both the station and the city centre, and literally across the road from many cafes, restaurants and bars. For the price, this is the best you can get. You also get lino floors (not carpet), plastic-inset bathrooms, and beds/curtains that aren't particularly old. This means a big plus for obvious cleanliness. (Especially if compared to the rather old and dusty fittings in the adjoining hotel, where the rooms are however much larger.) Good hot water, and reasonably comfortable beds. This room had power outlets at both of the bunk beds, as well as small reading lights. You can also eat your dinner in the large kitchen/lounge area. The check-in staff are helpful.

United KingdomTwo stays in a row, the room has been absolutely freezing. There is heating, but it takes a while to kick in, then, it gets unbearably hot/stuffy. It would be nice if the rooms could be a pleasant temperature on arrival for guests. The rooms are VERY basic. The bathrooms are tiny (shower just a couple of feet wide!) Similar to what you would get in a ship's cabin/overnight sleeper train. I was aware of all this before booking and chose the room as it met my needs (safe, quiet, clean, great location) The price/quality ratio is poor (I find this to be the case across the Netherlands). This place won't be for everyone. It's not homely, romantic or glamorous. But if you just need a bed for the night and don't want to pay double in a low to mid-range hotel, this is worth a go for solo travellers/relaxed couples.
Second time staying here across the space of 4 years. Friendly, welcoming reception staff (at the Martini Hotel next door as the Bud Gett reception is being refurbished?) Good location for the railway station & just steps away from dozens of restaurants, bars, a supermarket and the Martinitoren. Plenty of charging sockets including near the (bunk) beds. Clean bathroom. Plenty of loo roll. Hot water. Towels provided in the private room.
