Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomUnfortunately the restaurant was closed on the Saturday evening so we had to dine elsewhere in town. Access was via an alley round the back.
Pretty much what we expected if slightly dated.

TurkeyThe walls were thin so I could hear the next door guest. I also got badly bitten by mosquitoes, but this appears to be common in The Netherlands.
It was in a good location. The room was quite big and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was fine. It was in an old building, which gave it character.

United KingdomPeople with mobility problems should be aware that the stairs to the upper floors are steep and the treads are quite small - not big enough to fit all of your foot onto. To be fair, the stairs are typical of those in many historic Dutch buildings and they should probably be left unchanged as they are an important part of this beautiful and historic old hotel! Able bodied people are unlikely to have any problems and should not be put off in any way by this comment.
This beautiful, traditional old Dutch hotel is situated on a quiet street just a short walk away from the lively centre of the gorgeous and historic old town of Harlingen. The bar and restaurant areas are tastefully furnished and decorated. My room was old fashioned, however it was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was superb - a great range of high quality items were available from the breakfast bar and you can eat as much as you like. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The big Dutch guy with the shaven head was a very helpful and jovial character!

New ZealandThe decor is a bit tired. I don"t like stand-in-the- bath showers.
Great position, near the centre. Secure bike storage, but not under cover. Coffee and tea facilities in room. Amazing breakfast!

The hotel is well located in the center of the city. It is like a big house with several rooms. Everything is clean and you feel great in the bedroom. The breakfast was good.

PolandWhen I visit Harlingen the next time, I will just ask for the room on the first floor. The second floor was a bit inconvenient for me.
Everything in the hotel Centraal was perfect for my special trip to Harlingen. It is located close to the harbor, train station, beach and the city center. The room is clean and has everything what is needed. The rich breakfast is really amazing. I also appreciate nice and friendly staff.

NetherlandsNo one at reception when we arrived. waited around for 10 mins. before someone showed up.
THE BREAKFAST WAS TRUELY AMAZING. one of the best breakfasts that I have eaten in Nederland; 8 types of cold meats, smoked salmon and the chance to fry your own fried eggs, good coffee. 10 out of 10. Also really friendly and helpful family that run the hotel. If I visit Harlingen again I know where I would stay. Really comfortable room with all one could wish for. bath, toiletries, air cooler, coffee and tea, fridge etc.

CanadaTwo things in particular - we were shown to a ground floor room! We had previously been in a hotel that required us climbing to the third floor and in a home exchange requiring us to climb to the 5th floor! We knew that going in but were quite delighted not to have to climb stairs this time. The other was the breakfast served. Often European breakfasts consist of bread, cheese and sandwich meat, but this hotel also provided scrambled eggs, slices of baked ham, a good fruit spread and even smoked salmon. Definitely exceptional good value!
