Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

RomaniaThere are some things that didn't work exactly as planned, and given the price of accomodation in Amsterdam, I think they shouldn't be overlooked. Tourists pay a lot so perhaps these might serve as suggestions for improvement. 1. Booked a room with 2 single beds, got a room with one double bed, so we kind of started off on the wrong foot. That was really uncomfortable because the pillows and the mattress weren't the greatest, and we had to share one duvet during the first night. Tried to change rooms the following morning, but apparently it would have been too complicated, like checking out and checking in again later, so we got an extra duvet and tried to make it work. 2. There was cold air constantly coming from the ventilation above the bed, right above our heads, which was also a stressful factor during the night. We checked to see if the AC was accidentally left on, but it rather looked like it was coming from outside, maybe due to the wind. When the heat was on we didn't feel the cold air, so we tried to make do like that. 3. The drain in the bathroom was an interesting model of design: it was put in a higher spot in the shower, and the water wasn't going there, but rather preferred to leak towards the room. We had to take speed showers, to make sure we don't flood the room we were supposed to sleep in.
The location was the best one possible in Amsterdam: very close to Museumplein. Tourist attractions were easy to reach, while tram stations were also within 5 minutes walk, so basically getting anywhere was easy. The room was tiny, but clean, and we managed to make ourselves quite comfortable for 3 nights despite some inconveniences.

NetherlandsWe paid extra for a room with a window. The website showed photos of larger, multiple windows for the selected room but once we arrived it was just a tiny window. I was happy we could open it for some ventilation though. The bed itself was really really soft, which is not my preference but it was alright. What was quite unfortunate though is how noisy it can be with people out in the hallway, which was easily heard in the room itself. I could follow whole conversations of people I don't even know so that's not great when you're trying to get some sleep.
It was clean and had the basic necessary amenities. The location is great too!

FranceMany young customers bring loud music in their rooms. Also many smoke drugs right at the hotel front door ; hotel staff should send them further away… not nice with you are a family with kids. Finally, the inside court of the hotel where bicycles are stored is very dirty. Papers and plastic should be removed every day…
