Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

EstoniaThe hotel is located near the Amsterdam central station, which is very convenient (when leaving the station you need to swim 5 minutes on a free ferry and walk 7 minutes to the hotel - this is for those who can get a little confused with maps, like us 😂). There is no separate hotel designation, so you need to contact the restaurant. The room was clean, in a retro style as stated, our room had a small kettle and coffee, which was very convenient. There is also a kitchen on the floor.

SwitzerlandThe hotel doesn't have a reception and the staircase is a bit steep, however the cafe downstairs is able to bridge this gap so it is not a big concern as such, unless one is quite particular about this feature. Only downside is the wifi was very poor and we weren't able to connect to it.
The hotel is situated in a very good and quite area not very far from the railway station. It is easily accessible by free ferry with excellent frequency. The room was quite spacious and comfortable. Overall it was a good experience.

MaltaOnly thing I would say is the area of the stairs leading up to room smelled kind of bad- but the room itself was perfectly clean. Something else I would change is to have at least one time when the room is cleaned- During our 4 night stay no one came to change our towels, but the staff very graciously provided us with towels when we asked for them.
This was a great value for money experience staying at this hotel- Comfortable, perfectly clean and good location. Nice bathroom, comfy bed and a nice view from window. Spacious rooms.

United KingdomThey could make it even nicer by tidying up the stairs and corridor. It felt like walking through their storeroom.
This is a cheap and cheerful hotel on the "wrong" side of the river. It's just a few rooms to let above a classy restaurant. I loved it with it's quirky art and painted floor boards.

AustraliaThe stairs were very steep. Access would be impossible for anyone with mobility issues or with suitcases heavier than 12kgs. It is noisy on a Saturday night as the windows overlook the courtyard where the cafe diners eat and drink. The cafe was closed on Sunday so it was very quiet on Sunday night.
Great location. Easy access by free ferry from Central Station. Lovely leafy area of Amsterdam away from the crowds. Helpful staff. Good supermarket close by.

United KingdomOnly thing is that it can be a little noisy at nights as there are several restaurants nearby that are busy but saying that it’s nothing compared to the city centre for being so close (you take the 5 minute free 24 hr ferry behind Centraal Station and your practically in a quiet suburb). I think a comfortable chair in each room wouldn’t go amiss!
I love this quirky wee hotel, the rooms are each small work of design magic! I’ve stayed here a couple of times and it always an inspiration. You are give the use of a good sized kitchen and facilities which are a plus. The staff are laid back, friendly and helpful and the location is ideal, only a short walk/ferry to the madness of Amsterdam but far enough to be quiet if you need.

United KingdomThe retro TV sited within is more decorative then functionable - not an issue for me but might be for other folk.
Bedroom and living space quirkily decorated in a unique retro style. Bath and shower superb. A small hitch with curtains fixed within 12 hours of reporting it. There is ample communal cooking facilities if required. Accommodation is located on the second floor - not a problem for us but should be taken into account when booking - stairs only no lift. Whilst rooms are not serviced daily, ours was of an acceptable standard on arrival; perfect for a short stay. Location is outstanding - far enough from city centre to be less noisy at night, near enough to ferry to go anywhere 24/7. Ample restaurants and bars nearby, well within walking distance.

United KingdomWe didn't really like the 'meat' picture on the wall in the room, as it was a bit disturbing to us as non-meat eaters. A couple of comfortable chairs to sit on in the room would have been good as there is plenty of space and two bedside tables would have been appreciated. The room is a bit sparce.
This is our second time staying at Café Modern, but in a different room. The rooms are quirky and quite basic, so wouldn't be to everyone's taste, but we like it there and we don't mind the more old fashioned facilities. The rooms remind me of student apartments, with painted floors and interesting pictures on the walls. Our room this time was large, with big windows and very quiet. The bathroom was also large. The rooms are in an old apartment on the second floor of a building above a restaurant and it is the staff in the restaurant who check you in. We like the fact that even though there is a fridge, kettle, coffee, teas and cafetiere in the room, there is also a shared kitchen for the 3 rooms, with a microwave/ oven, fridge etc and so you can prepare simple meals. We love the location as it's accessible via free ferry every few minutes from the back of Central Station and then a short walk in a quiet residential area. There are big parks nearby, plus a shopping area with supermarkets, bars and restaurants, including a fantastic Indonesian called Kannibalen En Paradijsvogels. It really makes a change from being in busy central Amsterdam as it is a peaceful nice location.
