Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):

United KingdomThe location is a bit remote (The hotel itself cannot help this) you will need a car or other transport to get to anywhere else other than the Hotel. This traps the traveller a bit, so it's a good job it has a great gym/spa area..
This new hotel is quirky, modern, comfy and has everything you need. The hotel is great value. The restaurant serves good, fairly priced food. The gym and spa are superb, and included in the stay, the only extra to pay is for the treatments such as massage etc. :-) The picture windows on the upper floor rooms give a superb view of the very flat countryside.

BelgiumYou're aware that it's a new hotel. And that the breakfast / restaurant/ cleaning personal are new at their job. They don't see the work in front of them which is a pitty for such a nice hotel. F.ex. clearing dirty tables, or weighting on people takes to long. I prefer that the eggs and bacon are really warm in stead of almost cold.
The wellness and fitness were very nice. Nice big rooms restaurant was good. Breakfast buffet was really nice

United KingdomThe loo was in its own little room half a mile away from the main bathroom. When you sat on it it was so high up it made you feel like Dennis Waterman in Little Britain.
New hotel and great food in the restaurant. The bed was massive and the pillows a foot thick.

NetherlandsBreakfast is not worth it for €19.5. Classic continental options only. Compared to the breakfast from other franchises in Van der Valk, the new hotels breakfast is so sub par. Only 4 warm food options . It is still tasty that's good for sure. But it is ridiculous that they charge this amount to customers but can't match the level of other Van der Valk.
Everything except for breakfast. It is straight 10 out of 10 until the second day morning we tried breakfast it became an 8.

Modern, spacious and comfortable accommodation. Very friendly and polite staff, good facilities, large, aesthetic and practical room. Excellent breakfast.

United Kingdomthe breakfast is pricey as it costs over 19 euros, so we had breakfast at my parents, i don't think any breakfast is worth that kind of money. this is really being picky and i can't think of anything else negative!!!
super close to the airport and still lovely and quiet, private parking, staff is super helpful! rooms are amazing! we travel a lot and stay in lots of hotels but this is by far my favorite from now on! The Van Der Valk chain hotels are known to be great but this it their best hotel! They only opened in April so everything is brand new! The beds are super comfy, and the little lights with sensors in the evenings make it so nice and easy to pop out of bed in the middle of the night without falling over :)!!!

IsraelStaff are clearly new and without previous experience. Unwilling to solve issues with grace, but rather with attitude. I was also charged the first night, then later the full amount for my stay, even though this was not the booking conditions, nor was I given any prior warning. This ended up in me paying double for my stay while I waited 2 weeks for the hold on my card to be released. When I addressed this with the hotel they were unwilling to call their bank, or apologies or offer any explanation. Part of the issue was also that they forgot to release the hold when I paid on another card. After staying in the hotel for a week, I asked if I could check out 2 hours later and was told no, that the hotel was fully booked; only for me to arrive at the airport at 3pm realizing I had left my passports in the safe. No one was checked into the room and they were able to get my passports, which tells me that I could have stayed til 1pm if they had cared to accommodate me after all the payment issues. Following that they were unwilling and unable to help me find a driver to bring my passports to the airport and in my panic, I had to find my own way. Also, room service is at a charge of €17, and all amenity kits are at an extra cost and self-service.
The hotel is beautiful; facilities are amazing and brand new, room was bright with view of park area, clean and comfortable.

United KingdomWe stayed a night at Hotel van der Valk - Best and it was one of our worst hotel experiences in netherlands ! We had a long night and arrived late at around 11 PM. I was very tired and the room they gave me was in an unacceptable state ( directly after a guest), with dirty towels thrown in the tub and blood stains on the sheets. It was disgusting . The receptionist was quick to change my room but it appears ( the second room) to have been not-quite-finished by housekeeping, with hair found in the sheets. Upon checking out, I brought up my concerns with the receptionist. She apologized for my experience and said she was aware of the issues. However, when I brought up the state of the other room, I could tell that she was more concerned with the other guests who were checking in and didn't want them to hear our conversation, even though she initiated the conversation about my stay. I found this to be off-putting and unprofessional. I mentioned that my second room bed was obviously slept on , I showed her photos of my friends room and my room and she said ooh I get what you mean its not slept on but yeah Its not well organized yet! So not finished by house keeping and saying it as a legit excuse . I’ve stayed in a couple of van der valk chain hotel. Never experienced something like this. On the other hand My friend went to his room and it was very clean and well organized yet no water bottle or slippers can be found in the room . Overall it was a very uncomfortable stay for both of us. Its a shame since the hotel design and rooms are very nice. I hope the hotel can improve their attention to detail in their cleaning processes and train their staff to handle guest concerns in a more attentive and professional manner
