How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

the room was not cleaned properly There was a piece of paper which was lying on the floor. It was not removed all three days and i presumed the room was not vaccumed either

The weather could've been a tad better.
Our weekend at Van der Valk Hotel Groningen-Hoogkerk was simply delightful! From the warm welcome to the thoughtful amenities. The room was spacious, comfortable, and impeccably clean, providing the perfect retreat after exploring Groningen. Our puppy was overjoyed to find a ball waiting for him in the room—a thoughtful touch that made his tail wag with excitement. The food selection at the hotel's restaurant was broad, and the meals were delicious. The staff were exceptionally attentive, making our stay truly special. Can't wait to return!

I was quite surprised by the amount charged extra when travelling with a pet. (In fact, I have never paid that much extra at any hotel previously...)
I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was in the night, despite the highway being right next to the hotel! ++ The receptionists were always very friendly, polite and helpful!!

That we couldn't at 2.40pm, it had to be 3.00pm.
The location was great for catching the bus to the city and the rooms very comfortable.

The bed mattresses were rather hard. The main restaurant room was already fully booked, so we had the breakfast in the bar area (which uses the same menu).
The room was spacious with excellent shower, toilet, TV, space for the dog, very quiet and with coffee/tea maker. Free comfortable parking was nice, and the dinner delicious.

No mini bar/refrigerator in the room.
Spacious rooms with modern appeal. Clean and well maintained/new. Staff was helpful to assist in our requests to store some food in their refrigerator. Excellent hotel for a business trip or visit to Groningen city.

Nothing really.
Nice and spacious room (we got an upgrade upon arrival - we checked in pretty early and were lucky I guess) Staff super friendly, parking easy and breakfast really nice.

Location -hotel is a bit outside of the town; there were roadworks beside- no clear detour signs. Not a hotel's fault obviously, hopefully, these roadworks finished by now.

A little noisy this time, since we had a room facing the highway and heat pump facilities located just under our window.
Spacious room. Good breakfast with wide choice. Comfort bed. Enough parking with charging facilities. Friendly personnel. Good access from the highway.

It is a little out of the centre with not much round about, but that didn't matter to me as my friends were able to pick me up and it's only a short taxi ride from the centre
Given this was a last minute booking, I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice this hotel was. The room was huge, the bed very comfortable, the staff great and the brasserie did great food.

We found it difficult to find the hotel as we didn’t have the full address. Restaurant menu could have been more interesting the staff in restaurant all very efficient and professional whilst being nice a chatty

The automatic surplus added to the charge in case you use Resturant/bar. I understand but need to have more faith in customers

Everything! Superb room, we booked a junior suite, the bathroom eas out if this world! Spotlessly clean and very spacious and comfortable. The staff were polite and helpful and the food at breakfast and in the restaurant was exceptional, inventive and delicious. A superb stay and if we are in the vicinity again it would be the only place I would stay
