Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyOne of the rooms was problematic, the heating was leaking, the TV was not working and the window was to the backyard where all the people of the house meet. Also the window (room was in the ground floor) could not be proberly opened. Alghough we informed the leaking heating on the very first day of our arrival, it wasn't fixed and a room change was also not offered.
The rooms have been very clean on our arrival and the location is perfect, close to the centre and close to the sea.

United KingdomThe curtains were broken so they wouldn't close fully, being on the ground floor with people smoking outside the window made it difficult with privacy.
The layout was good and the Hotel contact was very helpful.

GermanyThe "hotel" feels more like a hostel. Sure you got your own room and bathroom but when I compare it to e.g. A&O hostels, the cleanliness is similar. There was dark long hair laying on the bathroom floor and in the shower right after check-in. Obviously not properly cleaned. As other visitors, I also have to agree that the 2sqm bathroom layout is not the best. Especially brushing your teeth and washing the face is very challenging! Be careful, since there is no flush mirror on the wall but a big shelf with a mirrow over the sink. Surely it was possible but you come very very close to the sink and the wall to properly wash and brush yourself. If the hotel room and especially the bathroom were cleaned spot-on in the first place, it would'nt be gross but I would'nt want to stick my face as close to mediocrely cleaned equipment again. The hotel owner should replace this shelf with a simple mirrow and brief the staff on better cleaning. Furthermore on our 2nd day we took a little nap in the afternoon and someone banged something on the floor the level above our room. Eventually the main lamp on the ceiling went lose and fell approx. 50cm down, hanging just on the installation cables itself. It still worked but there was mortar all over the bed. We instantly informed the hotel owner about the issue and that we will leave the room now so he can fix it. Sadly the lamp wasn't fixed. The hotel owner just commented it with "that's crazy".
I liked the location the most. It was super close to the beach and the inner town of Zandvoort. Definitely the reason I stayed here besides the reasonable price compared to other hotels in the area.

GermanyThe hotel(room) feature description is in many aspects not accurate or highly misleading. The indicated distance of 350m to the beach must be the linear distance, the actual walking distance is closer to 500-600m - but this is only a minor point. So is declaring a concrete backyard a “picknick area”. More important is e.g., that our room (No. 1) was not furnished with a wardrobe as promised in the description, it only had a rather small, wibbly open rack. Many rooms (including our room) face a busy street (Hogeweg, N201) which is the main access road in Zandvoort leading to the beach. Accordingly if you get one of these rooms you have to cope with heavy traffic noise and (if you have a room on the ground floor) passers-by peeping into your window. Our bathroom (and as we could see also the bathrooms of other rooms) was extremely small. In fact, it was so small that you couldn’t sit normally on the toilet with the toilet door closed, you either had to leave the door open or sit sideways. Even worse was the sink. It was so tiny that you couldn’t even wash your face without flooding the whole floor. And to top it all off, the bed was so uncomfortable (very soft mattress) that we woke up with violent backache each morning. The service quality and responsiveness of the staff was far below average. The employee rushing through the motions of a check-in and giving insufficient advice on parking possibilities was just a nuisance. Rather unacceptable was the fact, that the staff did not respond to a service request asking to fix the suspension of a surfboard that was hung up over the head end of our bed (one of the dowels was already halfway out of the wall). We contacted the staff on this security relevant matter on Tuesday morning and until we left on Thursday nobody had shown up to fix it.
It's not that easy to come up with many positive points as to Hotel Zand. Apart from the beach being within easy walking distance (around 7-10min depending on your walking speed or around 500-600m) and the main shopping area also being very close nothing comes to mind spontaneously.
