Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BulgariaThis isn't a negative in any way but do be aware that you are an hour drive from Tromso and if you're doing tours/activities they all start in the city center so you need to plan in advance. Or you could ask the tour guides if you can drive directly to the location straight from Æra.
The property is great, rooms are quite comfortable and nice, surrounding environment is breathtaking, very romantic and secluded. You reach either by car or bus, preferably you have your own car because you need to drive everywhere to get around. The staff was very helpful especially Lau and Mike they really accomodated to our needs and helped out whenever we needed anything. The food was great - both for lunch and dinner, wine selection was nice and the sauna was a good place to relax with a direct view on the pretty mountains.

United StatesI don't think it was clear from the website (or I didn't read it clearly) how far away from Tromso it actually is. I'm guessing 40 minutes to an hour outside the city. The food the hotel provided was delicious. But do all your activities before heading in for the night. Or rent a car. Taxis and shuttles may not work with your timing.
What a private, beautiful retreat from Tromso. When I booked, I wasn't aware how far away from the city it actually was and should not have booked a Northern Lights Tour because 1. We could see the lights from the property and 2. We didn't want to return an hour to Tromso and then drive around for 5 hours chasing the lights and then return to Aera after midnight. The rooms are cozy and stylish with privacy and beautiful views. We didn't get one of the three rooms that were raised up which we were initially unhappy about but the regular cabin-room was so great. We loved being outside the city, in nature, under the lights.

AustraliaMore shuttle buses please!
The location was stunning but it is difficult to get to unless you drive as your options are once a day shuttle buses or a very expensive taxi fare. The staff were so brilliant, the accommodation was so beautiful and the food was first class. The experiences were also wonderful: Freya the cat was adorable, the sauna, the lavvu and the king crab dinner were incredible. Loved every single bit of our stay.

Germanycozy small nicely furnished cabin with a beautiful view. We really liked the concept of choosing a breakfast variation which they bring directly to your cabin. We recommend booking a car early enough in advance since the accommodation is 40 min away from the city centre/ airport and cars are not easy to get spontaneously. 3 of 4 nights northern lights were easily so see. Everyone was super friendly- we would definitely come back.

AustraliaWe loved everything.
The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. Dinner was home cooked and was amazing. We tried the King Crab experience which was informative and delicious. We even saw the northern lights. Definitely worth checking out as you have so much opportunity to see them as there is no light pollution from the town.

United StatesThat I couldn't book the panorama cabin. The electricity shut off on me a few times and the room got a little bit cold at night
The views of the snow, mountains and fjords in the morning from the foot of my bed. The breakfast came directly to the cabin in a cute little basket! The staff was very helpful with my missing the reindeer tour and made delicious lamb stew ! The staff also walked my car directly to my cabin in the snow :) and gave me a late checkout when asked

Wonderful staff and location. They include breakfast delivered to your room and things like free snowshoes and daypack. Parking is right at your cabin. We didn't rate them higher only because 1) no microwave in room 2) the regular cabins are pretty tight but doable. 3) use of booking.com creates a situation where most of their photos are of the 3 amazing cabins that sit side by side on the property. Due to the naming and how Booking works, it can be difficult to understand you're actually booking a different cabin type, which is the majority of what they offer. This happened to us, and upon confirming with the property it turns out it happens to a LOT of people.

SpainUnfortunately our booking was a “glass panorama cabin” and when we arrived we found out these type of cabins were still in construction so booking sold us something that wasn’t even available at the time. Which it was extremely disappointing since this is the mayor reason we chose this property.
The staff was simply amazing, the location is beautiful and not too far away from Tromso center, the cabin is big enough and very cozy and nice

AustriaNo storage for bags and clothes.
We only stayed one night in the Aurora glass cabin (not to be confused with the Panorama glass cabin!). It is a modern but small cabin with a large window. I would recommend booking the other options for a longer stay.

AustriaA fantastic location and an incredibly friendly team. It's a bit of a drive from Tromsø, so don't underestimate that. Public bus transport is limited and infrequent, but it is the cheapest option. A taxi from the airport or town will cost around 1000-1200 NOK. Check the options on the Area website before booking. Some things are not yet at the premium level that the price tag suggests, but the team is motivated and improving every day.

SwitzerlandThe only thing that was really a bit annoying is the placement of electricity sockets. You couldn't charge your phone from bed and to dry your hair you had to sit on the floor (maybe I missed the correct socket but I looked for a while). all the ones available were on the floor... also there was no shelf at all to store clothes. didn't bother us as we only stayed 3 nights and there were lots of hangers for coats. we would come back definitely!
The place is magical, looks exactly like on the pictures. Staff is super nice and helpful. the sauna experience we really recommend! I would definitely come back and choose this place again

AustraliaThe photo’s and description were relating to the glass panoramic cabin that wasn’t even built yet. We paid the price we did, expecting that we would be sleeping under the northern lights in a glass cabin for our honeymoon. Had we known that the photos advertised weren’t legitimate, we wouldn’t have stayed. Very deceiving and disappointing.
The location was sensational and the staff were very attentive with great communication.

For the price of two people joining an aurora lights tour, you could be in the comfort of your own bed and watch them right outside! The staff was amazing, they went above and beyond throughout our stay. Super friendly and have great tips on things to do!

excellent place . 40km from tromso city. we got to see the aurora aurealbilis . the staff were very warm and courteous , they also came to our cabin to inform us once the light show started. they also prepared for us a local non-alcoholic warm beverage to have beside the bon-fire setup in the tepee . further , as we eat vegetarian food and had carried some supplies , they also allowed us to use the common dining area and helped in heating the food , giving us plates etc... all in all a very good experience.
