Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

RomaniaBut the problem I can't forget was that the ventilation / air conditioning system have been malfunctioning. It was august, it's true, but the norvegian summer was cold, cloudy, humid. Considering that, we weren't expect our room (at the left end of the first floor coridor) beeing permanently ventilated by a strong (pretty noisy) airflow which definitely had at most 15 degrees. I searched in vain for some room temperature / ventilation controls. I looked for some assistance... there was no person in charge and NOT EVEN A PHONE NUMBER FOR EVENING / NIGHT (it was a phone number for contact, but the phone was left at the locked front desk). That is, the ship's crew was missing (in action you'd say? hummm... rather not) and robots were nowhere to be found. I even have managed to call to a local emergency service... obviously nobody found a way to help us. So... we took our blankets and tried to sleep on the couches in the groundfloor lobby (it was much warmer). After about an hour and some crooked necks we gave up, returned to our... cabin?... room?... and put to bed with all avalable blankets piled above us. In the morning the situation didn't change: it was Sunday, and the problem remained unsolvable till Monday morning... when we left. But positive thinking is essential... I imagined myself like making first trainings for some arctic expedition. And the happy end came a few days after. We got some kind of reward... a few consecutive sunny, warm, bright, wonderful days. If that was the sacrifice to be endured... it really worth it :)
The good things that have been said about this location are true. It's a quiet, peaceful place. Austere and clean. But nothing important is missing. Doors were opening by pressing a button... like in SF movies. Even the steep hill had its purpose... without it maybe we might not have been able to see squirels in the tree in front of our window

United StatesWhat a gem of a place. Simple, clean, well managed guest house. Wouldn't change a thing and would highly recommend. It's a bit of a hike from the center of Sandvika, but worth it.

AustriaIt is very clean and the common areas are really comfortable. Every guest takes good care, that the shared kitchen stays clean and able to use at all times . We left some of our luggage in the car, because the 4 bedroom is not very large. But this was completely OK for us.

GermanyIf you join with public transport, it is bad: 40-50 minutes walk uphill and not a good view. With bus from Sandvika station it is still 10 minutes uphill and costs 38 NOK. If you join by car, you get a free parking slot. If you don’t mind to have shared bathrooms, and with car this guest house is a good option.
The shared rooms are great, you have a kitchen and a nice space to spend some time, playing games, watch TV…

1. The price is relatively low. 2. The room is very quiet, comfortable and clean.

United KingdomJust that it was a scary walk in the dark other than that, great place, a little further out from Oslo central had to get a train from the airport to the closet station Sandvika and then the 240 bus to Emma. The bus comes every 30 minutes but if you like riding a bike or scooter it’s fine.
The place is clean and well stocked, the bathroom is on the outside of the room. In the room you have a wash basin, downstairs they have a communal kitchen, the longe stocked with wine glasses and kitchen stocked with plates and pots and pans to cook, it’s in a really quite area but, I went in winter time and it got dark, early and there only one way to walk up from the bus stop it’s up a hill and kinda scary at night alone, perfect for two man trip, but Norway Pretty safe anyway, I’m just a scardy cat. I would definitely go back though because it was so pretty

GermanyI was completely satisfied. Maybe travelers who arrive by public transport might see it as a (manageable) hurdle to get there the last meters. For someone who needs action and a central place for staying, this peaceful and relaxing place might not be the first choice.
This nice guesthouse was my first and last accommodation on my Norway trip. The whole building as well as all rooms are recently renovated. This house is barrier-free, too. The lounge is decorated stylishly and cosily. The individual sleeping rooms are furnished functionally. Everything, especially the wash rooms was clean. The very kind and helpful staff made me feel almost like home during my stay. I enjoyed this quiet place surrounded by nature, although the capital isn't too far away. So I can recommend this nice place especially for travelers with a car but I also managed to get there by public transport - including a very short walk of about 500 m. One bus during midday is even stopping directly in fronz of it. Around Emma Gjestehus you can easily go hiking or strolling. Sandvika, the next town and train stop starting point to Oslo is also worth a visit with its nice restaurants and the big shopping mall. Another good reason to have a stay at Emma Gjestehus is the good price-performance relationship - compared to most other hotels and hostels in an around Oslo. I would be glad to spend some more days there during my next vacation in Southern Norway.

DenmarkWhen we had to go to the restroom during the night the lights in the hall and bathroom are so bright you almost get blinded :D maybe they could be less bright in the night
Comfy beds, great room size, very clean and good bathroom and shower facilities, bonus that there is a kitchen with most of the necessary utensils

GermanyThe family rooms are tight on space but you can make it work. The place is recently renovated and really clean. The staff gave us a lot of support especially when we were looking for public transport options to Oslo. The history of Emma Hjorth and what she did is fascinating. You not only get a nice, clean, affordable place to stay, it has a a lot of history.

IsraelThe family room is absolutely tiny for 4 people. Reception hours are limited and it is problematic since they only accept payment in person during their office hours. There was no soap in the shower and no one to ask from sine there is no reception...
A good affordable alternative for staying in Oslo center. Everything is nicely renovated and well maintained. There is a nice feeling of a robotic building with all the automatic doors.

United StatesOnly down side is location., but this isn’t anything they can control. The bus stop is about .25 miles away, and it’s all uphill. Do yourself a favor and just take a taxi from the train station.
You really can’t get much better. Laundry, safety, quiet, clean, water pressure, fully stocked kitchen, A+!!!

United KingdomNo plugs for usb or mobile-laptops that were UK standard and international standard to charge devices. No option to order food in house. Not being informed of needing apps or bus card to pay fare with. And price a bit steep for self catering. A bit awkward carrying things up and down stairs to put in fridge and use kitchen.
Staff, peacful location with a good view. Ok, ameneties. Good with free coffee and tea.
